Southwest Surveys provides professional surveying and geomatics services in support of a diverse range of projects throughout New Brunswick. Overview

Working closely with survey crews, project managers, engineers, and professional land surveyors, the Survey Draftsperson will process survey data and prepare professional deliverables for legal, topographic, engineering, subdivision, and construction-related projects.

Depending on qualifications and experience, the successful candidate may be considered at the Intermediate or Senior level.

Key Responsibilities

Process survey field data and coordinate with field staff to resolve discrepancies or gather additional information. Prepare legal survey plans, subdivision plans, topographic surveys, reference plans, engineering survey plans, and construction-related drawings. Draft plans and figures using Carlson Survey and related software. Assist with coordinate geometry, boundary analysis, survey calculations, and quantity calculations. Prepare and work with three-dimensional surface files, contours, profiles, LiDAR data, and other electronic survey deliverables. Review drawings, calculations, and deliverables for accuracy and completeness before professional review. Maintain project files and records in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. Support project managers, engineers, and professional land surveyors in delivering projects successfully. Contribute to the development and maintenance of drafting standards, templates, and workflows. At the Senior level, mentor junior employees and review completed work for quality and consistency.

Qualifications and Experience

Diploma in Geomatics, Survey Technology, Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting Technology, or a related discipline. Candidates with a relevant certification and significant practical experience may also be considered. Proficiency with AutoCAD and survey drafting workflows. Experience processing field data and preparing survey plans. Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work. Ability to manage priorities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.

Intermediate Level

Five or more years of relevant surveying, drafting, or geomatics experience. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Experience communicating with clients with periodic guidance.

Senior Level

Ten or more years of surveying, geomatics, or technical drafting experience. Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, survey drafting, coordinate geometry, and survey calculations. Strong understanding of surveying standards, legal descriptions, and plan requirements. Ability to mentor junior employees and conduct quality reviews. Confidence managing client relationships independently.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience using Carlson Survey. Familiarity with New Brunswick subdivision and land development processes. Experience processing LiDAR data and working with three-dimensional surface models. CST certification or another recognized geomatics credential. Experience preparing or reviewing legal descriptions, survey reports, and supporting documentation. GIS experience. Interest in continued professional development within surveying and geomatics.

Compensation will be determined based on the successful candidate’s experience, qualifications, certifications, and demonstrated technical abilities.
