Job Description About Qualicum School District
Qualicum School District is centrally situated on east Vancouver Island and covers the area from Nanoose Bay to Bowser, spanning from Errington across the Strait of Georgia to Lasqueti Island. We serve a student population of approximately 4700 students. Qualicum School District comprises eight elementary schools (Grades K-7), two secondary schools (Grades 8-12), an alternative school (PASS/Woodwinds), and a Distributed Learning program, known as the Collaborative Education Alternative Program (CEAP), to support home-learning families. False Bay School on Lasqueti Island is entirely off-grid with an immense solar project recently completed. The Qualicum School District also partners with numerous community organizations through various school programs. The area’s natural beauty, never-ending beaches, mild climate, and small-town charm make it a popular tourist destination and an excellent opportunity to have a career in paradise.
We are currently seeking a Groundskeeper III to join our team. This is a full-time, year-round position offering a competitive hourly wage and comprehensive benefits, including pension coverage.
Job Title: Groundskeeper III
Schedule: 40 per week 12 months per year.
Compensation: $38.76 per hour with a pension and an excellent benefit package.
Job Function An employee in this classification ensures a high level of maintenance to School District Grounds to provide students and staff with a safe and pleasant place in which to play, work, and learn.
REPORTING TO: Director of Operations or designate
Illustrative Examples Of Work
- Maintains School District grounds and playground equipment in accordance with Board Policy and applicable codes and bylaws.
- Orders supplies and equipment as authorized by the Assistant Manager of Operations.
- Recommends and evaluates equipment prior to the acquisition.
- Organizes and implements a preventative maintenance program for all playground equipment.
- Estimates labour and material requirements for grounds programs.
- Makes recommendations for short and long-term grounds development.
- Operates all vehicles and equipment available to the Grounds Maintenance Staff.
- Performs other job-related duties.
Required Abilities And Qualifications
- High school graduation or equivalent.
- A diploma (2-year program) in Horticulture that emphasizes turf maintenance.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience, including training period.
- B.C. A Driver’s Licence appropriate to the vehicles and equipment to be operated.
- Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate.
- Ability to work effectively with staff.
