Summary JOB SUMMARY:Reporting to the Manager/Chief Engineer, performs duties related to the safe operation and maintenance of the plant. Performs inspection and repair of a variety of equipment such as heating and air conditioning systems, pneumatic systems, HVAC, water lines, sumps, sterilizers, ovens, warmers, toilets and bathtubs. Ensures compliance with various codes and regulations related to power engineering and/or safety policies and procedures.QUALIFICATIONS:Education, Training and ExperienceCertificate of competency as a 4th Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of British Columbia. Two years’ recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Skills and AbilitiesAbility to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to deal with others effectively.Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Ability to organize workAbility to operate related equipment.1.Operates heating and air conditioning systems including starting up and shutting down related pumps, fans, air compressors and pneumatic systems. Monitors and adjusts temperature control systems and records meter and gauge readings to ensure distribution or air heating to designated areas.2.Checks and repairs equipment such as hot and cold-water lines, waste lines, sewer lines, sumps and traps, steam valves, radiator traps, sterilizers, ovens, warmers and distribution lines, sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers and other plumbing fixtures.3.Monitors and adjusts physical plant and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems by operating a variety of mechanical, pneumatic and/or electronic control systems and performing tasks such as altering systems operating parameters and schedules. Repairs and calibrates various instrumentation components of the steam and heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems.4.Performs preventative and demand maintenance of steam and hot water heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems by lubricating, repairing, replacing or installing equipment and or parts such as pumps, fans, air compressors, heaters, refractories, pneumatic systems, valves, bearings and seals.5.Tests and maintains auxiliary power generators and repairs/adjusts as required.6.Cleans, checks and lubricates various items of plant and other hospital equipment such as beds, wheelchairs, stretchers and floor cleaners. Changes and cleans ventilating air filters, fan rooms and duct work as required.7.Answers service and emergency calls for systems such as fire protection, medical air, vacuum and gas and ETO sterilizers. Resets systems, assesses and performs required repairs and/or calls in required persons according to established procedures.8.Monitors and adjusts chemical treatment systems.9.Maintains, repairs, replaces and extends steam piping systems including components of the Physical Plant such as expansion joints, valves, steam traps, strainers, heat exchangers, gauges and insulation.10.Ensures compliance with various codes and regulations applying to power engineering and/or safety policies and procedures by methods such as providing direction in relation to plant safety to persons working within the power plant, maintaining work area in accordance with established safety standards and guidelines and reporting operating inefficiencies, breakdowns and safety hazards to designate as required.11.Maintains records and makes logbook entries and carries out tests and calculations.12.Performs other related duties as assigned.
