Lakeridge Health is a proud participant in Health Force Ontario's Nursing Graduate Guarantee (NGG) for Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. This Program is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care. New Graduates and recently registered Internationally Educated Nurses who complete the NGG and are successful will be offered Permanent Full-Time position with our Emergency Department.

Participation in the NGG program is open to New grads and internationally educated nurses within 12 months of registering with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). Nurses participating in the NGG will be partnered with an experienced nurse for the duration of a 12 week period during their transition to practice period. After successful completion nurses transition into the Full Time Permanent position within the Emergency Program. The eligibility criteria is as follows:

Canadian educated nurses who:

  • Graduated with a baccalaureate degree in nursing or a diploma from a practical nursing program in Canada

  • Have not worked as a nurse in Ontario within the previous 6 months

  • Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO

  • Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into practice period

Internationally educated nurses who:

  • Completed their nursing education outside of Canada

  • Have not worked as a nurse in Ontario within the previous 6 months

  • Match with an employer on the NGG online portal within 12 months of registering with the CNO

  • Commit to accepting full-time employment or the equivalent of full-time hours with their NGG employer after completing the NGG program transition into practice period

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario

  • Completion of BScN

  • ACLS and PALS;

  • Commitment to completing Emergency Nursing Certificate (Sponsored by Lakeridge)

  • Competent to perform CPR at a Basic Cardiac Life Support level;

  • CC1 course required to be completed within 6 months of hire;

  • Commitment to completing NGG Program Full Time

  • Current B.C.L.S.;

  • I.V. Certified and Defibrillation Certified;

  • Demonstrated commitment to maintaining Reflective Practice Standards as outlined by the CON;

  • Recent Emergency/Critical Care/Med-Surg combination of consolidation experience preferred;

  • Proven EKG interpretation, cardiac monitoring, trauma nursing and patient assessment skills;

  • Proven organizational, prioritization, critical thinking, problem-solving and teaching skills;

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills;

  • Sound judgement, good observation skills, tact and empathy

  • Demonstrated ability to assume a charge/supervisory role;

  • Physically capable of lifting, turning, transferring patients manually and with mechanical aids;

  • Must have a satisfactory performance record;
