ABOUT THE ROLE
Main Purpose of the Job:
Reporting to the Manager of Operations, the Maintenance Worker is responsible for building and property maintenance, ensuring routine, preventative and emergency repairs are attended to in a timely manner. This role is vital in supporting health and safety initiatives for staff, clients and visitors while on-site, this includes being knowledgeable and adhering to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. The Maintenance Worker collaborates with the Joint Health and Safety Committee and various staff, including upholding the Agency’s mission, vision, and values while contributing to a positive workplace culture.
Employment Status: Permanent Part-Time
Salary Range:$24.35 – 25.88 per hour
Location:402 Bloomington Road, Aurora, this position will require travel within York Region.
Hours of Work: Twenty-five (25) hours per week, responds to on-call, after hours, emergency calls as requested by management
A LOOK AT YOUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs repairs and preventative maintenance on buildings, storage facilities, machinery and equipment at all York Hils properties, both owned and leased which involves travelling within York Region.
- Supports in the development of corrective and preventative maintenance schedules.
- Schedules and completes remodeling, refurbishing and/or repairs in all building spaces.
- Assembles furniture as needed.
- Assists with moving office furniture, fixtures and equipment within and between buildings and locations as needed.
- Assists with routine maintenance of all heating and ventilation systems (e.g., routine air filter changes).
- Performs minor plumbing and electrical repairs and maintenance.
- Supports in the transportation and delivery of supplies to storage sites.
- Performs routine equipment inspections to identify and prevent workplace hazards.
- Follows internal procurement policies and procedures when ordering property and building maintenance supplies and when maintaining inventory.
- Builds and maintains interactions with colleagues focused on individual, team and organizational success.
- Performs work in a safe manner and adheres to the established health and safety measures of the organization.
- Actively supports Equity, Diversity and Inclusion drivers, including fostering a welcoming and safe space, where people can expect to be treated fairly, equitably and in a culturally responsive way.
- Provides assistance with the regular maintenance of property grounds, including landscape beds, playground and parking lots.
- Conducts monthly property site inspections to identify and prevent workplace hazards, including identification of hazardous and bio-hazardous materials.
- Secures all hazardous areas in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, including internal health and safety procedures.
- Ensures all walkways, paths and parking lots are clear and maintained for the safety of staff, clients and visitors.
- Organizes garbage and recycling materials, ensuring proper storage and availability for scheduled pickups.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Completion of a secondary school diploma or post-secondary diploma in Facilities Management and/or a combination of relevant education and experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in general maintenance work.
- Ability to regularly move in the following positions: bending, kneeling, stooping, twisting, crouching, climbing, overhead reach and hand/finger dexterity.
- Ability to lift, push and pull up to 80 lbs.
- Experienced in utilizing hand and power tools, including operating mechanical and landscaping equipment.
- Foundational knowledge of HVAC systems, plumbing and electrical systems.
- Knowledge of well water and septic system maintenance preferred.
- Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, including fire safety awareness.
- Excellent organization, time management and communication skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and accommodate competing demands.
- Demonstrate versatility in the ability to work independently and collaboratively to support agency and program goals.
- Functional technological skills (e.g., Office 365, MS Office, SharePoint, software applications).
- Awareness and appreciation for the dynamics of equity issues (diversity, equity and inclusion) especially as it relates to gender, ethnicity, race, and economic status.
- Identification with the strategic mission, vision and values of the organization including inclusion, collaboration, people centered, knowledgeable and courageous.

- Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable motor vehicle.
- Completion of a Driver’s Abstract.
- Proof of automobile insurance.
