Position Summary

The Building Operator is part of the Park and Facility Services Team and is responsible for daily operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of HVAC and mechanical systems across Stampede Park. The role requires diagnosing issues on aging and complex equipment, performing preventative checks, and ensuring safe, reliable facility operations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Operate, maintain, and document mechanical systems
  • Conduct boiler water tests and manage water treatment programs.
  • Operate the Johnson Controls BAS (Metasys).
  • Record utility meter readings (electrical, water, natural gas).
  • Complete seasonal start-up and shutdown procedures for boilers, chillers, and cooling towers.
  • Monitor energy consumption and identify operational inefficiencies.
  • Ensure safe, environmentally responsible chemical handling.
  • Support facility sustainability initiatives.
  • Investigate and resolve operational issues, including after‑hours emergencies.
  • Operate equipment needed for event-related setup and teardown.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal trades and external contractors to support specialized repairs, maintenance, and compliance work
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Provide support to the Mechanical Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer as required.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:

  • 2–3 years of related maintenance or building operations experience.
  • Alberta Fifth Class Power Engineer Certificate (4th class an asset).
  • Experience in event centre facilities is an asset.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and time‑management skills.
  • General MS Office skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Adequate visual acuity, color vision, and sense of smell; ability to lift up to 100 lbs., climb ladders, work at heights, and tolerate extreme temperatures.
  • Experience with Metasys Extended Architecture is an asset.
