Clinical Scholar Mentor (2025-103)
The Opportunity The Clinical Scholar Program’s purpose is to continue the development of nurses in clinical settings through dedicated leadership and mentorship. Accordingly, the Clinical Scholar Mentor will assume a mentor role for nurses newer to the profession and/or to perioperative care, which will consist of a 0.5 FTE in such capacity until March 31, 2026. The Clinical Scholar Mentor will be accountable to identify specific needs for nurses, help to create applicable learning plans to address such needs, and to work with nurses to realize learning plan goals.
Qualifications
- Candidate must be a Registered Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience working as a Registered Nurse in a perioperative care capacity
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to motivate others
- Experience in training and teaching others in a clinical setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent clinical and technical skills
- Well-versed in nursing best-practices; inclusive of researching as needed
- Must strive to continuously provide a safe and supportive environment for patients, staff, physicians, and volunteers
- Must have basic computer skills
- Must be proficient in Meditech
- Must be familiar with CGMH policies and procedures, medical directives as well with College of Nurses Guidelines, ORNAC & NAPAN standards
- Must be dedicated to professional growth & development
- Must be able to perform all bona fide and essential duties of the position, which may include physical demands such as moving/transferring patients, pushing, pulling, bending, etc.
- Must have demonstrated excellent attendance/performance record
- Excellent organization and prioritization skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively communicate with other members of the health care team
- Possess sound professional judgment, initiative, innovation and knowledge
- Possesses excellent problem-solving skills
- Related education or training in clinical teaching considered an asset
