About the role

Key Responsibilities Production & Operations Management

  • Execute daily review of jobs, work orders, and routings; ensure labor corrections and job completions are accurate.
  • Coordinate with Scheduling/Planning to ensure correct job flow through the shop.
  • Schedule machining centers and personnel while considering project lead times.
  • Anticipate and resolve resource bottlenecks.
  • Track machining, polishing, fit-up, inspection, plating, assembly, and outside services.
  • Evaluate readiness of parts for plating, finishing, and final assembly.
  • Monitor machine utilization, idle time, downtime, and recurring inefficiencies.
  • Balance labor and machine assignments to maximize productivity.
  • Request overtime as required.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is conducted.
  • Arrange chip pickup and coordinate deburring and inspection with Parts Coordinator.
  • Provide project status updates and milestone reporting.

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Supervise inspection of machined parts to ensure quality standards are met.
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout production.
  • Manage reporting of major or recurring quality failures in coordination with QC/QA.
  • Facilitate problem-solving sessions, determine root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Execute LDM processes and ensure KPIs and operational metrics are compiled and posted.
  • Support and promote Surpass Operating System objectives.
  • Mentor and train personnel on Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Leadership & Workforce Development

  • Enforce safety policies and promote health and safety awareness.
  • Maintain discipline regarding start times, breaks, and shift handovers.
  • Address performance issues in real time and escalate when necessary.
  • Ensure employees are properly oriented, trained, and listed on the training matrix.
  • Develop and maintain standardized training processes and work instructions.
  • Support cross-training initiatives.
  • Recommend staffing requirements.
  • Manage employee uniform vendor.
  • Maintain professional conduct and uphold company ethics and standards.

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Coordinate with programming, maintenance, quality, planning, and outside vendors.
  • Work with Programmers to develop part and assembly methods.
  • Obtain vendor quotes for stripping, plating, and new parts.
  • Communicate production priorities and requirements to management.

Reporting & Administration

  • Account for daily, weekly, and monthly production hours vs. targets.
  • Develop and implement departmental reporting as required.
  • Identify and escalate production blockers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Job Requirements Education & Experience

  • Technical degree or equivalent related experience.
  • Minimum eight (8) years of progressive manufacturing experience in a high-precision machining and assembly environment.
  • At least three (3) years in a supervisory role.
  • Demonstrated leadership success in a production environment.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Familiarity with CNC machine operations and programming.
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (preferably Epicor).
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and production software.
