Packaging and Process Engineer (12-Month Contract)

Department: Innovation

Reports to: Packaging and Process Engineering Manager

Profile Summary:

The Packaging and Process Engineer is responsible for managing the process and package development process from creation to successful implementation into production.

Specific Accountabilities**:**

  • Communicate technical issues and details to the project team and management, work with plant operations to find and implement appropriate solutions
  • Execute new package designs and perform packaging component validation through conducting pre-trial planning meetings, coordinating and directing plant trials, documenting and analyzing trial results to draw practical conclusions
  • Working with cross-functional teams to ensure the packaging development and qualification process meets customer’s specifications and project timeline
  • Create and present reports for management and other internal groups
  • Develop broad knowledge of packaging materials, test methodologies, capabilities and costs of materials
  • Collaborate with Product Development & Engineering teams to innovate industry leading products
  • Ensure new product designs are fully functional in the high speed manufacturing environment and in compliance with quality protocols
  • Coordinate internal and external testing
  • Demonstrate a general understanding of project management to realize the order, importance, and impact of appropriate project activities and maintain packaging commitments to project scheduling
  • Develop and implement schedules, manage assigned projects, monitor the status of all elements affecting the outcome of the packaging development projects
  • Other project work and duties as assigned.
  • Understand, apply and actively participate in maintaining product quality and food safety program practices including BRC, HACCP, QA / QC, GMP, Sanitation and good hygiene practices.
  • Understand, apply and actively participate in maintaining health and safety program practices.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • A degree in Engineering required – preferably Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum 2 years’ of prior work experience
  • Recent Experience in the beverage industry or CPG is preferred
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization as well as external customers and suppliers.
  • Strong Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities while ensuring accuracy and quality of work.
  • Strong leadership, teamwork and communication skills. Ability to work cooperatively with various departments and build strong partnerships across the organization.
  • Ability to make decisions based on available technical information
  • Ability to take initiative, looks for ways to improve effectiveness or efficiency
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally (USA) for supplier and Co-Man facility visits.
