#About the Department of Security Services

Security Services responds to alarms and accidents, provides emergency first aid and responds to unusual activity on campus 24/7. Security Services is considered an essential service within the University.

#About the Role

The Operations Manager of Security Services reports directly to the Director of Security Services at Mount Royal University.

The position involves a high volume and considerable diversity of work. The primary purpose is to assist the Director in carrying out the mission of Security Services including acting as an incident commander to strategically and tactically direct all security incidents and emergency operations, engaging in the active management of staff including recruitment, training, and discipline, and planning the day to day tasks for assignment to Security Representatives.

The position will have direct management responsibility over MRSA staff within Security Services. The Operations Manager will assist in the creation and implementation of risk management programs, security assessments, audits, and other initiatives to enhance campus safety and quality of life while ensuring legislative compliance and the development and enhancement of policies and standard operating procedures.

The hours of work for this position are established at 35 hours per week. However, the Operations Manager may be called upon to work off-routine hours or on an emergency basis, when required, due to the needs of Mount Royal University and the Security department, which works on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

##Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of 26 MRSA staff.
  • Management of a $2.5M annual operating budget.
  • Strategic planning, organization, direction, and ongoing evaluation of the Security Services Department.
  • Development of departmental key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensuring resources are available to meet associated benchmarks.
  • Operationally responsible for activating the University's Emergency Response Plan and routinely serving as the EOC Incident Commander.
  • Jointly responsible for the overall design, implementation, life cycle development, and management of security systems, including key and card access controls, CCTV camera systems, and burglar/duress alarm systems.
  • Support capital planning and renovation initiatives by representing Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles.
  • Oversight of staffing, including developing and evaluating business cases for new training and improvement initiatives.
  • Oversee the collection of statistical data to mitigate risk and improve the safety of University buildings and users.
  • Report on activities, indicators, and outcomes related to emergency response and Security Services on a regular basis.
  • Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with Government of Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation and MRU safety systems.

##Qualifications

Education:

  • University Bachelor Degree, or equivalent.
  • Certified Protection Professional or similar designation, preferred.

Experience:

  • 6-10 years of management and / or leadership experience

  • Experience in Security or civilian law enforcement, preferred but not required.

  • Skills and additional requirements:

    • Basic understanding of Building and Fire Code
    • A strong sense of emotional intelligence and a high level of maturity
    • Ability to work under conditions of extreme uncertainty and high stress
    • Training in WHMIS, operation of Mass Communication system, operation of fire panel
    • Level 300 Certification in the Canadian Incident Command System, preferred.
    • Outstanding abilities in interpersonal interaction and communication
    • Technology proficiency (using office software, google drive, CCTV and access control systems)
    • Experience managing budget and payroll
    • Capable of handling multiple responsibilities and demonstrates strong work ethic

Salary:$98,502 - $135,930 per annum
