Anticipated End Date : This role is a one-year term position, renewable annually for up to three years, subject to funding and program needs.

Specialty Required

Registered Psychologist (R. Psych) licensed to practice by the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP); Clinical Psychologist specializing in assessment and treatment of mental health disorders; Educational Psychologist who can support students with academic, emotional, and behavioural challenges; Masters Level Counsellor or Counselling Therapist registered in good standing with other National or Provincial Associations who can support students with assessment, treatment, counselling, and advocacy; Bachelor (BSW) or Master (MSW) of Social Work degree licensed to practice and in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW); Registered Clinical Social Worker (RCSW) qualified to deliver direct therapeutic counselling, crisis support, and advocacy within the school community; Occupational Therapist with bachelor’s and or master’s degree in occupational therapy and have direct experience helping individuals with mental health challenges Psychiatric Nurse (RN or RPN) Registered Nurse and or Registered Psychiatric Nurse who specializes in mental health nursing and has formal training in counselling and is interested in gaining experience working in schools.

Palliser School Division, headquartered in Lethbridge, Alberta, educates around 9,300 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. The Palliser School Division is currently welcoming applications for the position of a full-time, temporary, Family School Liaison Counsellor - Mental Health Professional, commencing August 21, 2026, until June 30, 2027 (with the possibility of extension). Suicide intervention training, threat assessment training/experience, working with students of all ages and stages, and an ability to triage and manage crisis work while balancing a high caseload are a requirement for this position. Training will be provided based on the needs of the successful applicant.

Key Responsibilities

Provision of assessment, direct counselling, and treatment to children and their families; Accountable for the development and provision of quality clinical services to students; Provision of preventative and educational programming to students, parents, school staff and other interested community members; Crisis management and risk assessment services provided to students; Provision of statistics, reports, data interpretation and assessment documents as required; Interpretation, consultation and feedback regarding clinical impressions and recommendations to parents and school staff; In addition to performing the regularly assigned duties of an FSLC, the FSLC-MHP will also be responsible for program reporting and evaluation specific to the (ISSP); The Family School Liaison Counsellor (FSLC) will be a strong team member, working in partnership with school staff, a multi-disciplinary team, and interagency partners.

Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will have experience delivering wrap-around mental health support and services to all ages and stages is an asset for this position. The successful candidate will enjoy working with children and families and demonstrate an understanding of trauma informed practice across all stages of development and abilities. Confirmation of employment is conditional upon the submission of a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening, completed within three months prior to the commencement of the contract. AFWI BrainStory Certification is required and the successful candidate will provide proof of completion within 1-year of hiring

The Palliser Regional Schools is a school jurisdiction located in southern Alberta. The geographical area stretches from just south of Lethbridge to the Bow River south of Calgary. Palliser Centre houses the Central Office Administration, Maintenance and Transportation Services and is located in the City of Lethbridge. In addition, a satellite Maintenance Shop has been set up in the Town of Vulcan. The division offers full public education services to approximately 8,1000 students from early childhood services through Grade 12. Palliser has 15 community schools, 17 Hutterian colony schools, 10 Christian alternative schools, nine of which are in Calgary on seven different campuses, four outreach programs, an online school, and two dedicated Low German Mennonite alternative programs. One of our outreach schools and a junior high in one of our community schools also serve the LGM community.
