The Applied Politics (AP) program is seeking a Learning Assistant to provide targeted academic support to students who may be falling behind, as well as to assist with academic planning for accessibility funded learners.

Major Accountabilities & Responsibilities

(Including, but not limited to:)

  • Provide students with academic support and effective study strategies.
  • Assist in developing and enhancing tutoring resources to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Deliver individualized and group tutoring, including tailored learning plans.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust tutoring strategies and learning plans as needed.
  • Review and create training materials to increase instructional effectiveness.
  • Support instructors in fostering a learning environment that accommodates students with special considerations.
  • Collaborate with the Strategic Academic Learning Team and the Applied Politics team to create tutoring plans that meet individual student needs.
  • Participate in tutor training and professional development sessions.
  • Assist with duties assigned by the SSC or SALT, such as marking assignments and creating tutoring materials.

Required Qualifications

  • Post secondary education in Political Science, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience providing academic support, tutoring, or instructional assistance at the college or university level.
  • Strong understanding of learning strategies, study skills, and academic success techniques.
  • Ability to support students with diverse learning needs, including those with accessibility accommodations.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, instructors, and academic support teams.
  • Proficiency in creating learning materials and adapting instruction to individual student requirements.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment in handling student information.
