The Developmental Disabilities Association is looking for passionate Community Support Workers (CSWs) who are ready to inspire and empower others. CSWs play an essential role in helping participants build vital life skills—social, emotional, physical, vocational, recreational, and daily living—while supporting them to thrive through meaningful onsite and community-based opportunities.

JOB TITLE:

COMMUNITY SUPPORT WORKER | #2204

SERVICE AREA:

TERM/STATUS:

Permanent Full Time

SCHEDULE/HRS:

Monday to Friday 07:30-15:00  //  37.5 hours per week

HOURLY WAGE:

$26.83 - $29.76 as per the collective agreement 

(2024 rates, implementation of new collective agreement is in process, and new wage rates $28.46 to $31.57 will be implemented once funding is received)

What You'll Do:  

  • Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging program environment
  • Work along side team members to support participants with activities of daily living
  • Participate in the implementation and monitoring of individualized goal plans
  • Lead engaging, person-centered programs tailored to diverse abilities
  • Provide services through on-site, community and outreach-based activities

Requirements/Education/Experience:   

  • Degree or Diploma in areas directly related to Social Services, Human Services, Therapeutic Recreation or Education. 
  • 1-2 years of experience working with people with developmental disabilities in vocational & community settings.
  • Experienced in developing and facilitating engaging, client-centered programs and activities
  • Background in using positive communication and positive behaviour supports is preferred
  • Criminal Record Clearance                       
  • Medical Clearance                       
  • Driver’s Abstract showing a good driving record                     
  • Class 5 Driver’s License and use of a vehicle
  • Willing to obtain an Unrestricted Class 4 Driver's License during probationary period                            
  • Valid First Aid/CPR                       
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification                       
  • Demonstrated competency in English written and verbal communication                       
  • Basic computer literacy                       
  • Eligible to work in Canada        
  • Requires physical strength, good balance, mobility and endurance for recreational activities 
  • Must be able to safely support swim/water activities in community pools – includes entry into chlorinated water
  • Position involves assisting clients with personal care needs                         

Training is provided for: Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification & Client personal care
