Why this role is important?

Reporting to the Sr. Director, Customer Experience & Beauty Operations, the Director, Beauty Operations is responsible for leading the national Beauty Operations strategy across all Shoppers Drug Mart store formats. This role oversees operational excellence, selling and service programs, field enablement, beauty technology, communications, in-store eventing, and strategic transformation initiatives that drive business performance and customer experience.

Acting as a key bridge between Central Office and the field, this leader brings a deep understanding of store operations to shape scalable programs, processes, and tools that are practical, sustainable, and executable in stores.

The Director partners cross-functionally across Operations (field and national), Category, Merchandising, Marketing, Digital, IT, Learning & Development, and HR teams to ensure initiatives are operationally sound, effectively implemented, and aligned to the evolving needs of the Beauty customer and store teams.

The successful candidate is a strategic and customer-focused operator who can balance long-term vision with hands-on execution, simplify complexity, influence across stakeholders, and drive initiatives at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the national Beauty Operations strategy, balancing innovation with strong, consistent in-store execution.

  • Oversee the operational foundations of the Beauty business, including operational standards, selling and service programs, communications, field enablement, beauty technology, and store execution support.

  • Act as a key operational partner to Regional VPs and field teams, helping resolve issues, and improve execution across stores, to drive sales

  • Serve as the operational bridge between Central Office and the field, ensuring programs, processes, and communications are practical, scalable, and aligned to store realities.

  • Champion operational simplification by identifying opportunities to streamline processes, reduce complexity, and improve execution efficiency across the Beauty business.

  • Own change management for Beauty initiatives impacting stores, ensuring successful adoption while minimizing operational disruption.

  • Partner with Learning & Development to develop the national Beauty training strategy and ensure Beauty Specialists and field teams are equipped to deliver exceptional selling and service experiences.

  • Partner with the Customer Experience team to develop and evolve Beauty service and selling strategies that elevate customer experience and execution in stores.

  • Own the strategic roadmap for Beauty operational systems and technology solutions, supporting omnichannel execution and customer experience.

  • Oversee pilots, rollouts, and special projects from concept through execution, ensuring initiatives translate into measurable operational and business impact.

  • Leverage reporting, operational metrics, customer insights, and field feedback to identify opportunities, measure effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement.

  • Regularly visit stores to stay connected to operational execution and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Proven senior-level retail operations experience within a complex, multi-site environment, with demonstrated success leading operational execution and transformation initiatives at scale.

  • Strong operator with the ability to balance strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

  • Deep understanding of store and field operations, with the ability to translate strategy into practical, executable in-store solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive measurable sales and operational performance improvements through effective field execution and stakeholder alignment.

  • Strong judgment, prioritization, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage associates, field teams, senior leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale cross-functional initiatives, change management, and program rollouts within complex organizations.

  • Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to leverage data and insights to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

  • Customer-centric mindset with a strong understanding of how operational execution impacts customer experience and brand perception.

  • Proven people leadership experience with the ability to coach, develop, and build high-performing teams.

  • Strong understanding of omnichannel retail operations and the role of digital tools and technology in enhancing customer experience and store execution.

  • Experience within Shoppers Drug Mart across Field and/or Central Office roles is considered a strong asset.

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Retail Operations, or a related field preferred.

  • Ability to travel as required.
