About the role

Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:

The Lead Test Engineer is responsible for testing new and modified software and ensuring that it meets our high-quality standards at Arc’teryx. The work includes strategy, planning, and the execution of tests, using a variety of techniques including manual testing, load testing, accessibility testing, and test automation. You will help find, isolate, and report on bugs, and must be able to communicate information about quality and risk to your project team. You will also assist with developing and mentoring other test engineers and will support initiatives within the engineering guild at Arc’teryx. This is a senior role, on a people leader track, and is expected to be able to lead and inspire other team members directly or indirectly.

This role is primarily based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid remote work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada. This is a 10-month parental coverage contract at the time of posting.

Meet Your Future Team:

Test Engineers at Arc’teryx are embedded in cross-functional Business Technology product teams, working in an Agile manner on product and project development. They are also part of an Engineering Guild, as members of the broader group of Test Engineers in the Arc’teryx Technology division.

If you were in the Lead Test Engineer now, here are some of the core activities you would be doing:

    • Leading the planning, development, and execution of tests on major projects with complex integrations and technical dependencies
    • Working on complex test projects with institutional scope and diverse end users
    • Leading test engineers by inspiring, mentoring, supporting, and training them
    • Understanding and communicating the risks associated with a product and its development
    • Developing a test strategy that guides testing for your team’s product or project
    • Owning and understanding the integration of your team’s technology product into the broader application infrastructure
    • Championing quality guidelines and standards (including Test Engineering best practices) and providing feedback to processes
    • Ensuring the timely and thorough testing of hard to test systems, including back end testing, white box testing, and developing tests that can be planned and executed outside of the GUI.
    • Writing automated regression tests for your assigned product, relying on the provided tooling and record/playback methods where applicable
    • Working with extreme independence and showing an expertise that inspires and guides those around you
    • Developing and maintaining test automation using the tools provided (including Tricentis Testim/TTA and Cypress)
    • Supporting the Test Engineering Guild in initiatives, undertaking work that elevates and supports the engineering practice at Arc’teryx

    • Introducing, championing, or supporting ideas, approaches, or tools that elevate our testing and QA process
    • Evolving the automation framework and scripting based on the coverage needs and acceptance criteria of the application under test
    • Selecting new tools, practices, or technologies to enhance and drive the test practice at Arc’teryx
    • Helping other testers in the organization to become exceptional, and to exceed our expectations, and grow at Arc’teryx

Are you our next Lead Test Engineer?

    • You have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent in a related technical field
    • You have 10+ years of experience in software testing and quality assurance
    • You have a proven track record of leadership, and enjoy the process and complexity of leading direct and indirect reports
    • You have experience leading teams, and mentoring colleagues
    • You have an expert level understanding of test strategy, and can share it with the organization, and help drive the test practice at Arc’teryx
    • You have experience selecting tools, developing practices, and driving organizational change in the test engineering space
    • You have tested major products that touch multiple teams and technologies, with complex integrations
    • You have a mastery or testing techniques, and understand how to select the right method, approach, or tool to solve complex problems
    • You understand product and project risk, and how to communicate about risks to your team
    • You have experience with Tricentis test tools, particularly Testim, Tosca, and TTA
    • You can create and maintain tests in Cypress or similar automation frameworks
    • You have 2-5 years experience with Javascript, or equivalent
    • You have hands-on experience with API, microservice integration, and backend testing
    • You have strong oral and written communication skills
    • You are driven and passionate about championing quality in all forms
    • You have experience working with Salesforce Service Cloud or Marketing Cloud, and the Salesforce application ecosystem.
    • You have experience working in the retail technology sector, in Ecomm or Point of Sale.
    • Your passion for your work is paralleled by your passion for getting outside and living it

$94,000 - $117,000 a year

A reasonable estimate of the pay range is CAD$94,000 - CAD$117,000 at the time of this posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training. The upper end of the range is typically reserved for candidates with demonstrated expertise that is above job requirements or who bring exceptional directly transferable experience.
