Who you are:

The Reconciliation Policy and Public Programs Division is looking for a Senior Policy Officer at the REG6 level to join our team on a 12-18-month opportunity.

Purpose: Step into a meaningful role in Reconciliation Policy and Public Programs Division, a team dedicated to advancing reconciliation through Indigenous-led policy development and innovative community engagement. As part of the Reconciliation Policy Team, you’ll contribute to strategic policy and program design, communications, and public engagement initiatives that support new host communities. This work centers Indigenous partnerships and prioritizes culturally grounded, inclusive approaches.

What you’ll do:

Key Responsibilities include:

Policy Development:

  • Support the development and evolution of reconciliation policy and program frameworks
  • Draft briefing notes, discussion papers, and options analyses for senior management
  • Contribute to the design of policy and program tools for consultation and engagement

with Indigenous Nations and communities.

New Communities:

  • Conduct jurisdictional scans related to nuclear host communities

  • Assist in the development of performance indicators and reporting tools

  • Support the development of communications materials tailored to Indigenous Nations and communities, and host communities

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure messaging is clear and inclusive

Internal Culture & Learning:

  • Contribute to internal efforts to build cultural awareness literacy across teams
  • Support initiatives that embed United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (UNDA) principles into organizational culture and learning
  • Help shape tools, workshops, and resources that foster respectful, informed, and accountable policy practice

Essential Qualifications:

Education:

Undergraduate degree from a recognized university, preferably in the field of public administration, political science, economics, engineering or applied science, or a relevant combination of education, experience and job knowledge.

Language Requirements:

English essential

Experience:

  • Experience or demonstrated interest in shaping internal culture and learning environments that reflect reconciliation

  • Experience in Indigenous policy development, consultation or engagement

  • Experience developing communications products or toolkits for diverse audiences

Knowledge of:

  • Familiarity with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (UNDA) and its implications for federal policy

  • Strong understanding of reconciliation principles and Indigenous governance

Ability to:

  • Work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Excellent writing, communications, and analytical skills
