Summary The Project Engineer role will support Global Food through the execution of manufacturing capital projects. This role will be responsible for overseeing and executing small and medium size capital projects (typical project value under $2MM). This role is located at the manufacturing facility, under direct supervision from the Director of Global Potato Project Engineering at Simplot WHQ. These projects include implementing new equipment or processes at the manufacturing facility, or regional facilities, delivering value and sustaining operational capabilities for Global Food.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work closely with plant and engineering leadership to develop and prioritize multiple capital projects as part of the annual capital program.
  • Develop capital program and individual project schedules to include budgeting, capital submittal development, procurement, detailed engineering design, execution, equipment commissioning, and startup phases of the project life cycle.
  • Lead the effort with multiple disciplinary resources to create a detailed project scope of work and cost estimate.
  • Tracking and managing action items ensuring on-time project deliverables.
  • Tracking and managing project budgets.
  • Develop project cash flow forecasts.
  • Collaborate with Technical Engineering as needed for larger and more complex projects.
  • Lead purchasing activities with internal departments including Procurement and Legal to manage equipment purchases and service contracts.
  • Responsible for tracking and managing project purchasing logs.
  • Identify construction and installation contractor pool and work closely with procurement and legal departments to enter into master services agreements (MSA).
  • Review equipment contracts and establish required equipment delivery dates aligning with project schedule and project execution plan.
  • Review and approve all project invoices and process for payment.
  • Process and manage all budget change orders utilizing change order management process.
  • Review installation bid packages and manage the bidding process working closely with procurement when required.
  • Work with vendors and contractors to develop sound start-up support plans.
  • Work closely with plant operations team to identify required equipment spare parts and tracking the deliverable dates.
  • Manage contractors during project installation.
  • Lead project closeout and prepare capitalization with Asset Management and Finance.
  • Lead project lessons-learned activity documenting and presenting to management at the close of the project.
  • Prepare project status reports and update presentations (MS PowerPoint) to leadership and other key stakeholders.
  • Other tasks related to project engineering as required.

Typical Education

  • Bachelor's Degree (B.S. Eng.) from 4-year college or university.
  • Canadian P. Eng. license.

Relevant Experience

  • 3+ years related manufacturing experience in a food processing plant or related / comparable industry.
  • Understanding of engineering principles in manufacturing applications.
  • Exposure to engineering in a food processing plant is strongly preferred.
  • Exposure to planning and execution of capital projects including budgeting and tracking.
  • Exposure to working with or overseeing technical consultants and construction staff.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills.

Skills

  • Possess and can demonstrate effective thinking and behaviors as it relates to leadership skills and competencies. (esp. drive for results, collaboration, urgency and conflict resolution)
  • Ability to lead multiple small and medium sized projects simultaneously; including compressed project (and installation) timelines in an operating food manufacturing facility.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate to plant and engineering staff and leaders.
  • Strong MS Office skills including Outlook email communication.
  • Proficiency in using, creating, and managing spreadsheets (MS Excel) is required.
  • Proficiency in reading and creating CAD documents (AutoCAD, SolidWorks) is required.
  • Exposure to MS Project preferred.
  • Exposure to PDF editing preferred.

  • International travel is not required for this position.
  • Maximum travel not expected to exceed 10%.
