About the role
What you will be doing:
This position will provide assistance to the Agricultural Scientist. Processing research samples, entering data, assisting in trial set-up and assisting in data collection.
- Assist with plant phenology sampling project (collecting and classifying shoots on a weekly basis)
- Assist with herbicide screening trial and herbicide layering strategy trial (applying products to plots, assessing product effects, harvesting berries)
- Assist with canopy management research projects (assessing/measuring canopy characteristics, harvesting berries)
- Assist with varietal evaluation plots (harvesting berries)
- Assist with product residue plots (harvesting berries)
- Assist with inputting Pesticide Use Reports (PURs) during busy pre-harvest season
- Data organization/management
- Collect insect/disease/weed samples as needed throughout the season
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Horticulture/agriculture experience/education preferred
- Course work in entomology, pathology, weed science, etc.
- Experience in laboratory or field research setting
- Experience in data collection and organization
- Ability to read and understand scientific literature
- Ability to navigate to field sites
- Ability to work independently
Working Environment:
Terrain can be traverse and uneven. May need to be outside in adverse weather conditions.
