The Saskatchewan Firearms Office (SFO) is seeking a highly motivated, strategic, and knowledgeable individual to join our team as a Policy and Privacy Specialist within the Corporate Services Branch.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Corporate Services, this position is responsible for leading the policy development, legislative analysis, privacy, and professional standards portfolios of the SFO. As the successful candidate, you will provide strategic advice to senior leadership and play a key role in shaping operational and policy frameworks to support the SFO’s mandate and provincial firearm-related initiatives.

As the Policy and Privacy Specialist, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development and maintenance of operational policy, procedures, and regulatory frameworks for the SFO in consultation with the Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, and Executive Director.

  • Providing expert advice and guidance on a wide range of provincial and federal legislative matters, including the application of The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP).

  • Designing, implementing, and overseeing the SFO’s Records Management, Access and Privacy Program including FOIP request processing and commissioner reviews.

  • Conducting privacy impact assessments and advising staff on access and privacy best practices to ensure compliance and mitigate risk.

  • Managing the SFO's professional standards function by conducting investigations into serious breaches of policy, complaints brought by the Public Complaints Commission, and allegations of misconduct or unlawful actions.

  • Leading Serious Incident Reviews and use-of-force assessments on behalf of the Commissioner, preparing related reports and recommendations.

  • Overseeing internal audit and compliance functions related to policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Serving as the Designated Records Officer and assisting the Designated Access to Information Officer for the SFO.

  • Coordinating the SFO's ARMS/ORS Records Management System, including development of operational records schedules and disposition planning.

  • Developing Cabinet documents, briefing notes, position papers, and other written materials for senior leadership and external stakeholders.

  • Supporting budget development, reporting, and accountability processes related to the SFO’s strategic planning and financial performance.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Knowledge of policy development methodologies, legislative interpretation, and regulatory frameworks.

  • Experience conducting investigations into professional standards, privacy breaches, or use-of-force incidents.

  • Strong understanding of FOIP legislation, privacy risk management, and records management systems.

  • Excellent research, analytical, and writing skills, with the ability to produce complex documents for senior decision-makers.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage multiple priorities with integrity, discretion, and sound judgment.

  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of stakeholders across government and within law enforcement-related environments.

Typically, the knowledge and skills for this position would be acquired through:

  • A degree in public administration, law, political science, or a related discipline.

  • Several years of progressively responsible experience in a policy, legislative, access and privacy, or regulatory environment.

  • Experience working within or alongside law enforcement or public safety organizations is considered a strong asset.

  • Must be able to obtain a heightened security clearance (RCMP enhanced reliability security clearance), criminal record check, and background checks.

  • Due to the nature of the office, this position must be able to work in environments that may include exposure to unsettling and/or graphic material, travel, and work in remote locations, and working overtime /variable hours as needed.
