Reporting to the Supervisor, Technical Publications, the incumbent collaborates with engineering, logistics, and project teams to produce accurate, compliant, and user-focused technical publications in accordance with applicable military and industry standards.

This role involves transforming complex engineering data into clear, accessible documentation — including operation, maintenance, and Illustrated Parts Catalogs — that support the safe and efficient use of naval systems and equipment throughout their lifecycle.

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employees will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement. What You'll Do

  • Translate engineering drawings, specifications, and design data into clear and accurate written content suitable for both technical and end-user audiences.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Functional Engineering, Configuration Management, Program Management Office, and Supply Chain, to gather source data and verify technical accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance of all deliverables with defence documentation requirements, classification society regulations, and internal quality management systems.
  • Utilize authoring and content management tools, including Hico IPS Suite, R4i, Arbortext, Adobe FrameMaker, XML editors, and related software to create, update, and publish structured documentation efficiently.
  • Perform validation activities, including peer reviews, content verification, and publication quality checks, to ensure completeness and compliance prior to delivery.
  • Maintain version control and manage configuration changes to technical documentation throughout the lifecycle of the project.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of documentation standards, templates, and authoring processes in alignment with evolving industry practices.
  • Support the Supervisor, Technical Publications in developing schedules, reporting progress, and ensuring milestones are met.
  • Assist with internal and external audits related to documentation quality and compliance.
  • Perform additional duties as required by the Supervisor, Training or ILS Manager.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Communications, English, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience developing technical documentation, preferably within a defence, maritime, or heavy engineering environment.
  • Experience with S1000D or equivalent structured documentation standard
  • Familiarity with defence/shipbuilding industry standards and Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) frameworks is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and translate engineering drawings, data, and specifications into accurate documentation.
