Billing Specialist - Insured A/R & Collections
About the role
The Finance Department is looking for a highly-organized, detail oriented Billings Specialist. Reporting to the Manager, Transactional Processing in the Finance Department, the position is responsible for all the billing and collection for WSIB/UHIP patient services. To carry out this role, the Billings Specialist works closely with various departments in the Hospital, the Federal Government Third Party Administrators, and the Worker's Safety Insurance Board (WSIB).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Complete billings for all outpatient and inpatient visits including but not limited to per diem charges, diagnostic and laboratory charges. Ensure that claims are submitted to WSIB, WSIB-Out-of-Province, Federal Correctional Services, Third Party Agencies (e.g. Blue Cross, National Defense, Veteran Affairs, First Nations, etc.), Private Insurance and other Healthcare Institutions in a timely manner.
- Weekly review and follow-up of aged trial balance.
- Follow-up for collection of payment on outstanding accounts. Liaising with WSIB/UHIP/Blue Cross, or any other provider to rectify unpaid accounts.
- Obtain required data from all possible contacts to achieve billing success and reconciliation.
- Investigate, resolve and resubmit rejected claims.
- Identify claims for adjustment and/or write-offs.
- Post adjustments based on supporting information. Interact with patients or guarantors in obtaining pertinent billing information when necessary.
- Answering calls and emails to address patient, insurance company, or other third party inquiries.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Community College Diploma in Accounting or Business (2 year), or equivalent work experience preferred
- Minimum 1 year hospital billing experience.
- WSIB/UHIP/BlueCross billing knowledge preferred.
- Computer knowledge of Excel, Word, and Clinical Support Systems (EPIC preferred).
- Excellent, fast and accurate data entry skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must understand and be committed to St. Michael's Hospital mission and values.
- Must be punctual and have an excellent attendance record.
