Team Lead, Project Engineering
About the role
Job Description Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for engineering excellence and cross-functional collaboration? We’re looking for a Team Lead, Project Engineer to guide a dynamic team of Project Engineers and Project Managers in driving key initiatives that support our Engineering strategy and elevate our business operations.
This leadership role is central to managing engineering-driven projects, improving processes, and ensuring consistent communication across departments. You’ll play a pivotal role in aligning engineering efforts with broader business goals while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead and Manage Projects: Oversee a project hopper of current and future initiatives by collaborating with Engineering leaders to assess urgency, level of effort, and business value.
- Drive Data-Backed Decisions: Manage sub-projects and associated data analytics to support informed decision-making and project tracking.
- Support and Develop Your Team: Conduct regular check-ins with team members to provide guidance, remove roadblocks, and support professional growth.
- Promote Cross-Functional Collaboration: Deliver Engineering updates to other departments to ensure alignment and transparency across the organization.
- Engage External Stakeholders: Liaise with external partners on Engineering efforts, including comment reconciliation and trial agendas.
- Ensure Technical Oversight: Track pre-production deliverables and major technical changes across all programs.
- Champion Engineering Excellence: Support Engineering strategy alignment, process governance, and quality assurance initiatives.
Qualifications
- A degree in Engineering or a diploma in Engineering Technology.
- Professional designation as a P.Eng or Professional Engineering Technologist.
- PMP certification is an asset but not required.
- Strong understanding of business operations and inter-departmental dependencies.
- Proven leadership skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
