About the role
Your Job
DarkVision, a Koch Engineered Solutions company, is seeking a highly organized Applications Engineer to manage the testing and validation of our newly launched pipeline inspection technology. This role encompasses benchmarking and communicating the performance of the novel technology for specific industry use cases. We are looking for someone who blends excellent organization, collaboration, and project management skills with the ability to quickly grasp complex technical information and communicate with cross-functional stakeholders (Product, Sales, Research, and Engineering).
This role is on-site and is based out of DarkVision's head office in North Vancouver, BC, where employees enjoy full access to our facility amenities including a well-equipped gym, squash court, climbing wall, steam room, private showers, and more.
Our Team
DarkVision develops high resolution ultrasonic inspection technology for industrial assets. We engineer, develop and manufacture hardware and software to deliver pipeline integrity inspection reports that inform our customers of the condition and health of their assets. This is a great opportunity to join a world-class team that is revolutionizing how the oil and gas industry manages the integrity of their critical assets and the safety of the environment they operate in.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will work with Product and Sales to prioritize lab-based assessments of the pipeline inspection technology. You will project-manage the execution of the assessments and become trained in our analysis software to interpret the results and performance.
You will help craft the messaging and communicate our performance internally and to external stakeholders. The content you generate will be used to showcase differentiation and performance to customers, to help focus research and development on areas for improvement, and to support marketing and technical whitepapers. You will also work with third party vendors to procure samples as well as with internal engineering teams to scan them in our various test fixtures, including our 50,000 sq. ft. infinity loop - a full-scale indoor pipeline facility that enables endurance and repeatability studies.
Testing Roadmap
- Work closely with Product Managers to prioritize each capability based on value and effort.
- Translate the desired outcome into an actionable test plan - ideate samples and strategize to reduce time to data collection.
Project Execution
- Manage the end-to-end execution and planning of the test scans.
- Be the primary point of contact and central hub of communication and information between project stakeholders and contributors.
- Design/define requirements and communicate the required samples and test setups to internal teams and external vendors.
- Procure samples with field-representative defect such as cracks, corrosion, and dents.
Data Analysis
- Utilize our data analysis software to provide first assessment of the results.
- Leverage data analysis SMEs to help extract conclusions and measurements.
Communication
- Distill the results into easily digestible reports and presentations.
- Familiarize yourself with industry standards for detection and sizing performance, and utilize this standard for reporting.
- Work with Product Managers to show the relative performance against competitor technologies.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
- 3+ years in a relevant application or test engineering role.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, materials, mechatronics, or integrated engineering.
- Able to travel once a month at the beginning to ramp up, then roughly once every two months afterward.
What Will Put You Ahead
- Jira experience is an asset.
- PMP certification is an asset.
- Experience with NDE inspection methods such as laser scanning, ultrasonic (UT) handheld inspection, or CT scanning.
- Photography or data visualization skills are an asset.
- Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent influencing skills. Track record of driving accountability.
- Self-sufficient - able to make decisions and balance risk/reward with limited supervision.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
