**Initial Reporting Location:**Main Public Library
**Job Status:**Limited Regular Part Time position
**Estimated Probable Duration:**Seven (7) months (may be extended)
**Union Affiliation:**CUPE 4705 Inside Unit
**Hours of Work:**Up to 48 hours bi-weekly
**Shift Work Required:**Yes, some evenings and weekends are required
Range of Pay:$30.49 to $36.07 per hour (Range in effect April 1, 2026)
The start date will follow the selection process.
**Characteristic Duties:**Under the general supervision of the Manager of Libraries and Heritage Resources and the day-to-day direction of the Co-ordinator of Public Services.
- Provide reader’s advisory service and respond to reference and research questions in person, by telephone or electronically using a range of resources in a variety of formats.
- Assist patrons in the use of library resources, information technology and other equipment (e.g. 3D printer, vinyl cutter).
- Assist patrons with holds, renewals of material and other circulation duties, as needed.
- Resolve complaints from the general public within pre-set parameters.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of library collections.
- Provide content for print and on-line publications. Create search tools and compile indexes.
- Assist with the delivery of basic training to staff in the use of electronic products and reference materials.
- Promote and display materials, services and programs to stimulate library usage.
- Track usage of library materials to assist in the collection development process.
- Secure premises and set security system alarm.
- Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of CGS's Safety Manual and the applicable Provincial Legislation listed therein.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Qualifications
- Successful completion of a Community College Library Technician’s Diploma.
- One (1) year up to and including two and one-half (2½) years of related experience.
- Ability to use computer hardware and software, and a wide range of library and Makerspace technology equipment (including library automation software).
- Knowledge of various computer applications including Windows based systems (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, files maintenance, information input and retrieval, and the Internet).
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Ability to demonstrate the use of good judgement and other interpersonal skills in interactions with the public.
- Demonstrate the ability to balance multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and to work effectively with minimal supervision.
- Ability to demonstrate public speaking skills.
- Ability to demonstrate organizational skills and attention to detailed work.
- Ability to promote teamwork and work cohesively within a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent use of English; verbally and in writing.
- French verbal and written skills an asset.
- Satisfactory health, attendance and former employment history.
- Physical capability to operate a vehicle safely, possession of a valid driver’s licence and an acceptable driving record, will be considered an asset.

Development opportunity range of pay: $29.72 to $34.49 per hour (Range in effect April 1, 2026). The successful candidate will be paid at the reduced range until the minimum qualifications have been met.
