We are seeking a Senior Aviation Planner to join the expanding Aviation Planning group in our North region Toronto office. Arup is working with preeminent airport, airline and industry clients regionally and globally who are taking a long-term view and developing projects and programs to address the challenges of the coming years. These span the socio, economic and environmental spectrum to deliver long term sustainable development.
Project types include airport master plans throughout the world – recent examples include Mexico City New International Airport, Istanbul New Airport, Barcelona, Madrid, Venice, Solidarity Transport Hub (CPK), Western Sydney Airport; as well as aviation planning projects (landside, terminal, and airside) throughout North America, including Montreal Trudeau, Toronto Pearson, Los Angeles, New York JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, Chicago O’Hare, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle-Tacoma, Houston, Dallas Fort Worth and many others.

The opportunity
- Perform capacity/demand assessment for planning studies using various tools, methods and techniques
- Conduct passenger and baggage flow simulation modelling, interpret results and identify solutions
- Develop spatial requirements and program development for infrastructure and facilities planning
- CAD and graphic support with focus on terminal planning but with involvement in other aspects of airport such as airside planning and landside planning.
- Develop standard drawings details.
- Assist with development and review of forecast demand
- Collect and collate data from surveys, benchmark studies and other sources as needed in support of planning studies
- Assist in preparation of reports, presentations and deliverables including illustrations, tables and drawings to communicate complex technical ideas through a graphical and visual approach for a wide range of clients
- Generate and contribute to planning and operational reports and provide advice to planning and design teams, airports and airline clients
- Project work includes many of the most significant complex airport developments globally
- Analyze and support the summarization of policy and standard documents and background studies
- Research and analyze trends and best practices related to airport planning

Is this role right for you?
- Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree and professional license additionally beneficial in Transport Planning, Architecture, or related field
- 6+ years’ progressively responsible experience in aviation planning, transport planning, or related field, reflecting a professional awareness of today’s aviation industry, as well as the planning, design, construction, financing, operation, and regulation of airports.
- Knowledge/experience of analytical techniques and tools including spreadsheet, database and simulation modelling
- Experience and proficiency of CAD platforms (AutoCAD/MicroStation), Microsoft Office applications (Word and PowerPoint) and Excel
- Demonstrated strong numeric analytical competence and strategic thinking capability
- Good written and verbal communication skills essential for team-based working
- The ability to work with high level architectural and master planning concepts
- Excellent planning and organization skills and attention to detail for our fast-paced environment
- Must be highly motivated, proactive and willing to take on new challenges

Toronto Hiring Range – The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Toronto is $100,000 to $120,000 per year. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary.
