Halifax Harbour Bridges is a provincial Crown corporation that operates and maintains two bridges across the Halifax Harbour, the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge and the A. Murray MacKay Bridge. Approximately 105,000 vehicles cross the two bridges each workday, along with the hundreds of pedestrians and cyclists who use the active transportation lanes on the Macdonald Bridge. Halifax Harbour Bridges’ goal is to ensure that everyone journeying across the Macdonald and MacKay bridges has a safe, efficient and reliable cross harbour transportation infrastructure. Role Summary

HHB is looking for energetic students interested in being part of our Landscaping Crew. Reporting to the Landscaping Supervisor, theLandscaper – Summer Student (temporary position). The job entails mowing and line-trimming grass, and general gardening.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform basic maintenance such as cutting the grass, emptying bins, managing weed control, and leaf raking.
  • Work with hand tools and basic light machinery such as mowers, whipper snippers, and small diggers.
  • Maintain clean grounds by clearing rubbish and litter from HHB properties.

Requirements:

-Must be registered as a full-time student and returning to school as a full-time student in the following school year.

  • Must be physically able to kneel and perform garden maintenance for several hours at a time.
  • Experience in the operation of small equipment, including riding a mower, line trimmer, and backpack blower.
  • Able and willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must have satisfactory results of employment reference checks and a criminal background check, as a condition of employment.
  • Able to work efficiently and safely while exhibiting pride in quality work.
  • Experience in working in a team environment.
  • Punctual and dependable with a can-do attitude.

Assets:

  • Valid Class 5 Nova Scotia Driver’s License.
  • Knowledge in the care and maintenance of plants, trees, shrubs, and lawns.
  • Knowledge of gardening methods and tools.
  • Valid Safety training in WHMIS and/or First Aid. If necessary, these courses will be scheduled by the employer for the successful candidate to complete.

About the position:

This is afull-time seasonal, temporary position, working 40 hours per week from 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday throughout HHB's summer season. The start date for this position is**mid-April 2026 to early September 2026 and is subject to changes/ extension based on operational requirements.**The wage for this position is $18.00 per hour.

Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) manages two key pieces of transportation infrastructure in the province of Nova Scotia: the Angus L. Macdonald and A. Murray MacKay bridges.

Every year, almost 34 million crossings are made across the two suspension bridges and on most weekdays, the average number of crossings is well above 105,000.

There are 35 permanent employees working for HHB and this number grows to almost 100 during the spring and summer with the painting and gardening crew. Another 50 members of the Corps of Commissionaires manage the bridge operations including cash toll collection and bridge security.

HHB is a provincial agency that reports to the Minister of Finance. All revenue generated through tolls is dedicated to the ongoing maintenance and operations of the bridges to ensure a safe, efficient and reliable passage for the public.
