Description Located at the Heartland Petrochemical Complex (HPC) just north of Fort Saskatchewan, the Sr. Analyst, PLC Control Systems will report to the Manager, Controls & Automation, within the HPC Technical Services team. The Sr Analyst, PLC is a programmable logic controller programmer, with responsibility for technical aspects of all PLC Platforms at HPC.
Key Activities And Responsibilities
- Become familiar with the Central Utilities facilities, Propane Dehydrogenation, and Polypropylene units. As well as an understanding of any control requirements for the licensed technologies (UOP Oleflex, Grace Unipol) to help support the three main areas of the facility.
- Develop & execute preventative maintenance timing and scope of work for the control systems in collaboration with OT, PLC, and DCS teams.
- Support the development of data collection and monitoring systems for reliable operation of the facility (Plant Historian, PLC Modbus Tags into the DCS).
- Familiarity with Management of Changes (MOC) processes, safety best practices, and performing work on live plants.
- Support Operations and Maintenance with any PLC day-to-day operational or maintenance issues. Interface and collaboration with E&I Maintenance for PLC Corrective Maintenance work.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and solve control problems, work with third party interfaces like AMS Multiplexers, Serial/VIM Cards, etc.
- Support investigations into PLC controls failures or controls issues and complete reports and recommendations on preventative measures.
- Provide second-tier support for SIS testing/documentation/calculations/verification
- Support the Alarm Management plan as required
- Interface with engineering, service, and vendor companies on controls issues and obtain required information to support the issues at hand and for lifecycle planning & obsolescence of PLC control systems hardware/software.
- Be the support contact on high level Automation issues. Assist and provide guidance as appropriate for the issues.
- Support Projects Teams on PLC Inquiries for Spares, implementation, and cost.
- Complete control tasks assigned in support of the overall operation of the plant by utilizing Maximo Work Order Management System and communication with Operations for Scheduling/Implementation/Testing of PLC Logic or HMI Changes.
- Lead and coordinate larger automation projects, system upgrades, and turn around activities.
- Support the development and modifications to PLC HMIs as required.
- Support Backup & Recovery plans, support Cybersecurity Initiatives and work with OT Team to ensure high system availability and security.
- Design/Implementation/Testing of Control Strategies using IEC-61131 Programming Languages and HMI Configuration.
- Familiarity with all or a combination of Siemens S7-400 series (PCS7), Siemens S7-400 series (Step 7), Siemens S7-1200/1500, Schneider Trident, Honeywell HC900, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix
Education, Skills And Experience
- 3+ years of industry-related experience in the field of process control systems in an Operational Facility
- 1+ years of PLC experience.
- 1+ years of DCS experience.
- 1+ years of Communication Protocols experience (i.e. Modbus, HART, etc.)
- Familiarity with Virtualization Computing.
- Candidate will have experience with large scale integrated facilities
- Requires an Instrumentation/Electrical/Mechanical Technologist Diploma
- Preference will be given to candidates with SIF verification experience
- Preference will be given to candidates with previous petrochemical experience
Hours full-time, 9 hours per day, every other Friday off (9x80 shift)
As this position is identified as safety and security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of pre-employment medical with drug & alcohol, drivers abstract and criminal background check assessments with satisfactory results.
