About the role

The Opportunity:

Make your mark while you grow your career! Canadian Natural is seeking a well‑rounded intermediate to senior Thermal Area Geologist with strong technical and communication skills to join our Thermal Exploration team. This role offers the opportunity to support active operations and future development by delivering high‑quality, integrated geological interpretations across our thermal bitumen assets.

You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to evaluate, optimize, and progress SAGD, CSS, and steam flood opportunities within Canadian Natural’s Thermal portfolio, including McMurray and Clearwater assets. Your work will directly support reservoir performance, development planning, and long‑term growth across producing and emerging thermal projects.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Work in a team environment to identify, evaluate, and progress SAGD, CSS, and steam flood development and growth opportunities within producing properties and future thermal developments
  • Generate high‑quality geological interpretations using core, image logs, wireline logs, and other subsurface data
  • Collaborate with Geologists, Petrophysicists, Geophysicists, Geomodellers, and Engineers to build and maintain 3D geological models that support thermal development planning
  • Support the planning and execution of horizontal well drilling programs, including thermal producer and injector well pairs, stratigraphic wells, and observation wells
  • Integrate geological interpretations with production and surveillance data to optimize existing thermal wells and identify optimization and workover opportunities

What You Bring to the Role:

  • 4+ years of Canadian petroleum geology experience with a Bachelor of Science in Geology (an advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) is considered an asset but not required)
  • Registration (or eligibility for registration) with APEGA is required
  • Proven problem-solving, communication, organizational, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Solid understanding of Mannville stratigraphy and fluvial to estuarine depositional environments relevant to thermal bitumen development
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in horizontal well planning and drilling support
  • Proficiency with subsurface interpretation software such as Petrel, Geographix, and AccuMap, along with strong Microsoft Office skills
