Construction Manager 1
Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Campbell River Capital Constr Ofc
Employment type: Permanent Region: Vancouver Island
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Field
Annual salary: $ 107,000.00 - 135,300.00
What you'll do
- Directs and supervises a multidiscipline group of BC Hydro Construction officers, support staff and/or external
consultants in the fields of construction management, contract management and commissioning.
- Ensures that all aspects of construction work and associated activities related to assigned projects is planned and
carried out efficiently and effectively in terms of safety, quality, schedule, cost and scope.

Provides leadership and ensures compliance with safety requirements.

Works with the Construction Manager 2 to ensure adequate resources are in place to meet multi-year project and program
plans.

Provides technical guidance and facilitates appropriate technical reviews and oversight for projects as required.

Assists in the development of business unit objectives, quality assurance standards, customer needs, and performance
measurements.

Assists in managing Construction Management and Commissioning's operational performance to meet objectives.
-
Conducts Constructability Reviews for projects throughout various stages in the project life-cycle.
-
Provides input to and reviews contract tender documents with respect to scope and risk.
-
Provides input to the public consultation process as it pertains to construction site activities and issues.
-
May act as "Hydro's Representative" and Work Package Manager on a portfolio of construction contracts.

Manages construction and equipment installation contracts, ensures the successful completion of the contract work in
compliance with the contract milestones and responsible to verify and prepare documentation for payment.
- Negotiates work changes and manages contract disputes.
What you bring
- High school graduation plus additional technical training in civil, electrical and/or mechanical equivalent to a partial
university degree in engineering or graduation from a technical institute or accredited trade program.

Extensive on-the-job experience & training, without a formal degree or diploma, will be considered.

Seven (7) years of progressively more complex experience in the construction or utility industry including considerable
experience with hydro-mechanical & protection and control utility projects and performing resident engineering or
construction/contract management duties.
- Considerable technical knowledge in civil, electrical and mechanical construction and or maintenance work considered an
asset

Strong interpersonal skills

Ability to relate and discuss issues with a range of professionals from trades people to senior management

Ability and passion to provide strong work leadership and technical direction to engineers or other technical support staff

Ability to manage a project or series of projects of considerable scope and complexity on time and within budget
-
Demonstrated knowledge in construction methods and procedures in a utility environment
-
Demonstrated organization, project planning and people management skills
-
Extensive experience in the construction of dams and spillways will be considered an asset for this position
-
Experience managing BC Hydro contracts as a Hydro Representative / Delegate will be considered an asset for this
position
-
Experience working and/or coordinating with Station Field Operations will be considered an asset for this position
-
Primary work location is Campbell River, although travel will be required periodically
-
Experience with commissioning and turnover process to be considered an asset.

Ability to work on multiple projects and accommodate out of town work for extended periods of time as required.

Required to collaborate and coordinate with multi disciplined management and professionals across the organization
including the management of consultants and Unionized employees.
