As an Equipment Operator, High Pressure, you will be part of the Stormwater Operations & Maintenance (O&M) team, operating and maintaining stormwater and wastewater assets (mains, catch basins, leads, manholes, Oil and Grit Separators (OGSs), weirs, sumps, etc.). Primary duties include:

  • Operate High Pressure Units (e.g., Power Flusher, Vacuum Truck, Vactor unit, and Combination unit).
  • Primarily clean stormwater mains, catch basins, leads, oil grit separator, etc. with occasional work in the sanitary system using high-pressure equipment.
  • Operate various tools and nozzles including root and calcium cutters to clear debris.
  • Perform other duties such as maintaining the unit and assisting the Fire Department in the cleaning up and disposal of hazardous materials / chemical spills.
  • Complete daily report forms and input data in computerized systems.

Qualifications

  • Less than high school and at least 1 year of water and/or wastewater experience.
  • A valid Class 3 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with an Air Brake (Q) Endorsement and no more than 6 demerits, and no current charges or suspensions pending.
  • The ability to safely operate large vehicles and equipment is required.
  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED or CAEC [Canadian Adult Education Certificate]) is an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand pertinent operational procedures and manuals.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions to complete forms.
  • Ability and willingness to use software and desktop or remote devices.
  • Able to adapt to a fast-changing environment.
  • Success in this position requires strong interpersonal skills to deal effectively with the public/customers.

**Working Conditions:**Work outside; drive in, and work around, traffic; and operate heavy equipment.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

**Pre-employment Drug Test:**An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
