We are seeking an Animal Care Assistant to join our Animal Control Program located in Chilliwack. We are looking for highly motivated, independent and animal-savvy individuals. Under the direction of the Animal Welfare and Regulatory Supervisor, you will work as part of a team and be responsible for providing excellent and consistent full-scope animal care, which includes cleaning animal housing areas, preparing food, maintaining laundry and dishes, and ensuring a clean environment. You will assist in providing medications to animals and ensure reliable compliance with existing policies and procedures while maintaining accurate files and records. You will also be required to provide transportation of animals to veterinarian appointments, as required. The term for this position is from May 1, 2026, to September 1, 2026. The hours of work are 4 hours per day scheduled between 7:00 am and 8:00 pm, 5 days per week, Tuesday through Saturday.
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:

Must have a minimum of Grade 12, preferably supplemented by courses in animal welfare and behaviour and experience working in a similar environment, or an acceptable combination of training and experience;

Knowledge of animal welfare and standard disease control practices and procedures;
-
Basic understanding of dogs;
-
Be physically fit and able to work outdoors in all types of weather and able to lift and carry heavy bulky objects;

Good interpersonal skills, be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships;
-
Demonstrate maturity, sound judgement and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and integrity;

Be punctual and reliable; and
-
Must possess a valid Driver's Licence.
The job rate for this union position is $22.92 per hour plus 18% in lieu of benefits.
