Position Summary

Sonographer, Cardio-Respiratory Diagnostics Your goal in this position is to perform imaging exams, facilitate patient flow and ensure work assignments are organized appropriately in the modality of Echocardiography within Cardio-Respiratory Diagnostics. You will be expected to follow high standards for imaging as well as act as a resource for other physicians, staff, patients and families in the modality. You communicate appropriately, accurately and effectively with patients, families and all members of health care delivery team. You have professional judgement, analytical ability and resourcefulness as well as excellent organization abilities and problem solving skills. You work effectively as part of a team and demonstrate leadership skills. You demonstrate leadership skills particularly for handling stress and managing conflicts in an effective, calm and mature manner. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.

On a practical level, you will

  • Perform all imaging examination to meet established standards of the Department
  • Ensure that continuous technical quality improvements in echocardiography is met as per Accreditation Standards and IQMH guidelines as required
  • Facilitate daily patient flow and ensure work assignments are distributed fairly to cover daily workload expectations
  • Provide technical expertise which may include staff training, troubleshooting / problem solving equipment issues with hospital IT department and/or equipment service providers
  • Ensure equipment is appropriately serviced/scheduled and maintained in a timely manner to promptly address any service downtime issues
  • Maintain a regular schedule for ordering departmental supplies as needed and for maintaining required departmental records for statistical purposes
  • Adhere to the established policies and procedures of the Department of Medical Imaging
  • Participate in establishing and implementing any departmental and organizational policies and procedures for patients, staff, physicians and visitors (e.g. Health and Safety)
  • Provide professional assistance to NYGH team of Cardiologists when required
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to on-going learning and professional development to advance quality of diagnostic procedures
  • Be responsible for maintaining current knowledge of ongoing advancements in the field and commitment to strong collaboration with the clinical director for Echocardiography to enhance service in the department
  • Strong commitment to willingly accept and perform other duties as assigned as necessary
  • Demonstrate professional responsibility as a regulated health professional to maintain competence and continually improve individual knowledge, skills and judgement in response to changes in practice environments, advances in technology and the changing healthcare environment

Qualifications

  • Current Registration with CMRITO (College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario), required
  • Minimum of 2 years current experience as echosonographer, preferred
  • Current Registration with ARDMS, preferred
  • Current CPR Certification, preferred
  • Current Membership with Sonography Canada, strongly preferred
  • Certification in Intravenous insertion, required
  • Highly effective time management skills. Flexibility in working hours as dictated by the needs of the program
  • Advanced computer skills, i.e., Microsoft Office, Basic Excel, preferred
  • Bilingualism in French/English an asset
