About the role
We're seeking skilled and detail-oriented Piping Designers, of all levels, to join our Design & Consulting team in supporting innovative shipbuilding and marine engineering projects!
Our team is split into two main divisions that complement each other, 3D modeling and Manufacturing information (MI). The 3D model team takes engineering documents and turns them into a fully integrated digital ship. The MI team takes the 3D model and produces 2D drawings that the shipyard production facilities can fabricate from.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in developing piping systems and layouts for new vessel construction and refit programs. Working closely with other disciplines, production teams, and regulatory bodies, you’ll help bring complex designs to life using advanced 3D modeling tools and industry software to produce 2D drawings.
ABOUT US
At Genoa, founded in 1995 and a leader in production design and 3D modeling services for the shipbuilding and offshore industries, we believe success is built by people who are passionate, curious, and committed to excellence.
Proudly supporting major initiatives like Canada’s National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS) and commercial projects across North America, we foster an environment where collaboration drives innovation, learning and development are continuous, and every team member plays a vital role in shaping our future.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES
As a Piping Designer, your responsibilities include:
- Developing and modifying 3D models based on P&ID’s, schematics, or vendor-supplied VFI.
- Creating and revising fabrication drawings to align with project scope for structural and distribution systems.
- Designing piping and equipment layouts to produce a well-organized and efficient 3D model.
- Incorporating supports, spools, penetrations, and instrumentation into the design.
- Ensuring that the 3D model complies with regulatory standards, classification rules (such as DNV, Lloyds/GL, etc.), design guidelines, and client-specific requirements.
- Maintaining quality control for project deliverables in line with Genoa’s quality management system.
- Taking on additional duties as required to support the Design & Consulting Team and organization.
ABOUT YOU
- You have a technical diploma or degree in a relevant field (marine engineering, mechanical engineering or piping design) or a combination of education and experience.
- Having previous experience in marine design is considered an asset.
- You are familiar with regulatory bodies and classification societies, including direct interaction or compliance work.
- You have hands-on experience working with 3D product models for new ship construction and/or refit projects.
- You are proficient in implementing design changes and producing general arrangement drawings, including tasks such as redlining, annotating, and drafting for shipbuilding projects.
- You are familiar with AutoCAD and ShipConstructor.
- Knowledge of AVEVA, Cadmatic, Foran, or other ship design software is an asset.
- Having exposure to shipyard or production environments is a strong advantage.
- You can accurately read and interpret technical specifications and engineering drawings.
- You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- You have the proven ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and solve problems effectively in a dynamic project environment.
WHAT WE OFFER
- Competitive salary and benefits.
- RRSP matching to help grow your savings.
- Comprehensive health insurance and Employee & Family Assistance Program.
- Generous paid time off.
- Wellness initiatives and programs to support your overall health.
- Recognition and rewards for a job well done.
- Volunteer community engagement opportunities.
- Training and development opportunities.
- Fun team building and company-wide social events.
