We are currently seeking a Cellar Supervisor (Contract) to join our dynamic Cellar/Operations team in Grimsby Ontario!
The Cellar Supervisor is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing our Harvest and Cellar operations at the Grimsby Winery under the direction of the Ontario Operations Manager. This role champions operational excellence by maximizing productivity, enforcing best-in-class procedures, and maintaining a strong culture of safety and accountability. This is a full-time contract role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and direct the daily activities of Cellar & Harvest employees at the Grimsby winery, ensuring accurate and timely completion of winemaking and sanitation work tickets
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment through effective execution of Health & Safety programs: adhere to, promote, and improve upon Health and Safety, Food Safety/Quality, and Environmental standards & procedures
- Ensure the safe operation, sanitation, and maintenance of production equipment
- Hold product quality in the highest regard: promote and ensure adherence to food safety and product quality programs including GMPs, HACCP, and best practices for winemaking procedures
- Participate in the development of winemaking & equipment SOPs, lock-out and safe work procedures
- Support troubleshooting and problem-solving to resolve equipment and process issues in a timely manner and to improve operational efficiencies
- Participate in, and facilitate team meetings to deliver training, and discuss departmental issues and improvement opportunities
- Support personal development of team members through open communication & coaching
- Work collaboratively with production employees and management staff across all departments
- Assist in the recruitment, hiring, orientation and training of harvest employees
- Promote a positive department and company culture, encouraging cross functional collaboration, employee accountability, empowerment and engagement
- Lead and participate in root cause analysis and corrective actions for all environmental, quality and H&S incidents
- Create and maintain employee schedules and complete timesheet/payroll functions
- Manage material and ingredient inventories and order consumables and equipment parts as needed
What this teammate will bring:
- College diploma or university degree in a related field of study
- Minimum 2 years’ relevant experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Food and beverage manufacturing experience an asset
- Strong Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act
- Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality
- Reliable work habits and a strong commitment to health and safety
- A team player
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada without restriction
Work Environment:
This role operates within both office and production environments.
- Physical Effort: Combination of office and plant-based work, involving extended periods of walking, standing, sitting, and computer use. The role includes occasional lifting or moving of moderately heavy materials and frequent climbing of stairs or ladders.
- Physical Environment: Work is performed within a large-scale winery manufacturing setting, often in close proximity to loud, high-speed production equipment. Exposure to varying environmental conditions, including cold, heat, humidity, and outdoor elements, is required.
- Schedule Flexibility:
- Day, afternoon, night, and weekend shifts are required during the harvest period.
- Extended work hours may be necessary to ensure adequate supervision during overtime or peak production events.
- Sensory & Mental Demands: Requires sustained attention to detail and accuracy, particularly related to production documentation and regulatory reporting. Work pace is frequently fast, with a strong need for discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive employee and proprietary company information.
- Workload Management: Ability to independently manage workload and prioritize tasks in alignment with departmental goals and daily production demands.
