About the role

JOB SUMMARY

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for the operational management of the Purchasing Department’s activities, supplier management, and cost optimization, while ensuring the availability of the raw materials, components, and services required for operations. This person plays a key role in improving supply chain performance, negotiating with suppliers, and managing procurement-related risks.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise, guide, and engage members of the purchasing team to support their professional development and ensure the achievement of operational and strategic objectives. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and accountability within the team. Lead daily and weekly meetings to ensure effective communication of issues, priorities, and action plans. Ensure the execution of the purchasing team’s operational routine: issuing purchase orders, confirming dates in the ERP system, processing exception messages, and following up on open supplier purchase orders. Prepare, monitor, and ensure the achievement of the department’s various key performance indicators (KPIs). Work closely with Planning, Customer Service, and Program Management to communicate supply issues and ensure problem resolution. Support buyers in problem resolution, supplier negotiations, and the management of critical files. Participate in customer meetings to present and address issues related to purchasing and procurement. Develop and maintain strong relationships with strategic suppliers. Support the corporate team in implementing and executing the purchasing strategy. Ensure that purchasing parameters in the ERP system are kept up to date and reviewed regularly in accordance with corporate procedures. Ensure appropriate escalation of problematic parts to internal teams, the organization, and the appropriate management levels with supply chain partners. Collaborate with the demand planning team when required to assess the feasibility of add or drop requests from customers. Ensure that all purchase price variances (PPV) are identified, communicated, and properly documented. Manage Purchasing Department processes and lead continuous improvement initiatives to optimize operational efficiency.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of 10 years of experience in purchasing and procurement, ideally in a manufacturing environment. University degree or equivalent relevant experience. Significant experience in team management, with a proven ability to engage, develop, and inspire employees to foster a culture of collaboration, accountability and performance. Experience purchasing board-level electronic components and/or custom parts (an asset). Demonstrated experience using ERP and computer systems (advanced Excel).
