Position Summary
The Language & Culture Events and Workshop Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering cultural events, workshops, and community programming that celebrate and promote Tsawwassen First Nation language, culture, and traditions.
Based within the Language & Culture team, this position works under the direction of the Language & Culture Supervisor while collaborating closely with the Events & Food Services team to support the planning and delivery of most Tsawwassen First Nation community events. The Planner ensures cultural programming and workshops are integrated into community celebrations and organizational events.
Working with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, artists, community members, and internal departments, this position creates engaging cultural experiences that strengthen community connections and support the preservation and revitalization of Tsawwassen First Nation language and culture.
Duties And Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and deliver Language & Culture workshops, classes, and community programming. Coordinate event logistics including protocol, venue bookings, supplies, equipment, catering, transportation, and event setup/tear down Collaborate closely with the Events & Food Services Team to plan and deliver Tsawwassen First Nation events, ensuring Language & Culture programming is incorporated into community celebrations and special events Work with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, facilitators, artists, performers, and vendors to coordinate workshops and cultural activities Assist with traditional teachings, language initiatives, seasonal celebrations, and cultural programming Develop and manage event budgets and coordinate event-related purchasing Work with Communications to promote workshops, programs, and events Recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers as required Maintain attendance records, evaluations, and event reports Support departmental initiatives and assist with other Tsawwassen First Nation events as required Ensure all programming is delivered safely, respectfully, and in accordance with organizational policies
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 3 years of experience planning and coordinating community events, workshops, or cultural programming Post-secondary education in Event Management, Recreation, Tourism, Business Administration, or a related field is an asset Experience working with Indigenous communities and knowledge of Coast Salish culture and protocols is an asset Strong organizational, budgeting, and project management skills Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities Proficiency with Microsoft Office Valid Class 5 Driver's License

Strong event planning, organization, and project coordination skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple departments Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required for community events Knowledge of Indigenous cultural protocols and community engagement practices is an asset
WORKING CONDITIONS
Combination of office and community-based work
Evening and weekend work required to support events and workshops Ability to lift and move event equipment and supplies (up to 50 lbs)
Compensation
Pay range is $34 to $36 per hour. Placement within the pay scale is based on a review of skills, experience and internal equity Annual cost of living increases BC Municipal Pension Plan - employee contributes 8.61%, employer contributes 9.31% Excellent benefits, 100% paid by employer: 100% prescriptions paid, no deductible 100% basic dental coverage, no deductible 100% varied paramedical coverage Up to 15 Personal days per year Paid time off during the Christmas & New Year break Paid vacation time
