Job Profile Responsibilities Under the direction of the team’s Supervisor, the Systems Administrator is responsible for supporting various infrastructure services to enable city staff to provide services to the citizens including:

  • SQL Server and Oracle Database systems
  • Internet Information Services Internal and external web systems
  • Backup and Recovery Services for Oracle and SQL Server databases
  • Disaster Recovery Services
  • Various other Infrastructure Services

Primary duties include analysis, implementation, modification, testing, documentation, and problem resolution of IT infrastructure hardware and software.

As the Systems Administrator , your duties will include :

  • Ensure the effective operation of the City’s IT infrastructure environments.
  • Provide technical expertise and problem-solving skills to contribute towards the acquisition, development, and support of complex large-scale information systems.
  • Deploy, modify, test, and maintain SQL Server and Oracle databases, Internet Information Server web servers and other systems software at on premise and Cloud deployments, to provide an infrastructure for the City’s information technology needs
  • Upgrade and migrate databases and web servers as needed to meet customer’s needs and support requirements
  • Verify database backups are completed on schedule and recovery objectives are me
  • Troubleshoot database and web server performance issues in collaboration with DBAs and application support staff
  • Analyze and resolve systems problems, ensuring established system availability and response time objectives are met.
  • Continously improve technical skills, organizational knowledge, and awareness of emerging technologies to adapt to change and improve service delivery.
  • Support Cybersecurity.

Your Education And Qualifications Include

  • A University Degree in Computer Science or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Certification in IT Service Management or a relevant technical domain (ex: CCNA, Microsoft Azure Administrator, etc.) is an asset.
  • Three years of experience with deploying, maintaining and administering at a systems level at least one of the infrastructure services utilized by the city in large scale business systems.
  • Experience with supporting other infrastructure systems would be an asset.
  • Experience in analyzing system problems to carry out corrective actions.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of infrastructure service delivery environments.
  • Knowledge of the modern information technology industry, trends, and applications in relevant domains.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and with external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective and positive working relationships with teams, partnerships and alliances.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and responsive to changing priorities and circumstances as well as the ability to work on diverse projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of IT Service Management frameworks and ability to implement service management processes.

Conditions Of Employment

  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer.
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional off-hours.
  • Ability and willingness to be on call 7x24 on a rotating basis.

Position Reports To: Supervisor, the Systems Administrator

  • Flexible work arrangements may be available under Administrative Standard AS-018 – Flexible Workplace.
  • *In accordance with Article 4, an employee who enters the bargaining unit on or after the date of ratification [October 29, 2020] shall be placed on Schedule A-2.

Employees of the bargaining unit who are on Schedule A-2 at the time of ratification will continue to be paid in accordance with Schedule A-2. Employees of the bargaining unit who are on Schedule A-1 at the time of ratification will continue to be paid in accordance with Schedule A-1 until they are the successful applicant to a position at a higher Administrative Salary Level (Grade) or they (or the Association on their behalf) initiate a successful reclassification to a higher Administrative Salary Level (Grade) in which case they will be placed on Schedule A-2 and subsequently follow article 25-2 (Position Evaluation - Treatment of Incumbents).
