About the role

What You'll Do The Building Services Maintenance Assistant provides technical assistance to the Maintenance group and Trades in a variety of building service-related duties. Responsibilities include daily monitoring and work on DC fire safety system and components, inspections and logging of DC building service equipment/systems, and providing repairs to DC building equipment. This position also provides assistance to Production Maintenance when required. This is a qualification-based positon. This position is 40h per week, Mon-Fri

  • Perform roof inspections & minor repairs
  • Perform exhaust fan general inspection & minor repair/preventive maintenance
  • Assist in PM activities for production and plant equipment (e.g., conveyors, towlines, dock doors, etc.) & perform repairs to equipment during scheduled down time as required
  • Miscellaneous equipment lubrication
  • Perform regular inspection of Air Compressor System
  • Perform routine maintenance and repair to the DC including parking lots, gatehouse, and the AJ Billes Property in general.
  • Perform regular inspection of Standby and Backup Generators, to ensure that they are working in the event of a power failure.
  • Support contractors to ensure that the facilities are maintained to CTC Maintenance/other Standards. (e.g. fire/life safety systems, snow removal, landscaping, cleaning)
  • Use Maximo to ensure accurate service & parts information added to all work orders
  • Replace discharged power equipment batteries as required
  • Record power equipment & battery data
  • Perform daily housekeeping/5S activities as required
  • Maintain minimum and maximum quantities of building services consumables
  • Participate in problem solving sessions to identify variances and come up with solutions to improve equipment and Maintenance operations, including reducing costs/improving services.
  • Respond to breakdowns on facilities equipment (systems) in a timely manner based on set priorities.
  • Perform miscellaneous fabrication tasks as assigned.
  • Ensure proper utilization of parts, shop tools, man-ups, etc.
  • Assist in emergency situations as required. (e.g., fire safety systems checking/verification)
  • Instruct and aid new personnel as directed.
  • Provide mechanical assistance to Trades group when required
  • Participate in other duties as required
  • Perform tasks, taking responsibility and decision making to see the job to completion.
  • Organize, plan, acquire all necessary equipment and tools to perform required tasks.
  • Conform to all safe operating practices and procedures.
  • Conduct all daily activities in accordance with Canadian Tire Safety Standards.
  • Conform to hours of work.
  • Work constructively and effectively with all internal and external contacts, maintaining dignity and respect at all times.
  • Complete assigned work in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in an ever changing environment

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated experience in:

  • Painting

  • Fabrication

  • Plumbing

  • Technical/troubleshooting

  • Demonstrated ability and experience in working on building/DC systems and equipment (fire system & related, pumps and fire sprinkler systems, etc). Have a working knowledge of all site fire prevention systems and how they operate, including testing and monitoring the fire suppression systems to ensure that they are fully functional in the event of a fire or emergency.

  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)

  • Electricity and electrical knowledge is considered an asset

  • Experience with Maximo CMMS is considered an asset
