Internship Summary:

The IT Business Applications Documentation Intern will support the Business Applications team by creating, organizing, and maintaining high-quality technical and process documentation. This role is ideal for a student or early-career professional interested in enterprise systems, data analytics, and technology governance within a regulated CPG environment.

The intern will work closely with developers, business analysts, and application owners to document system designs, business processes, and analytics assets. In addition to documentation responsibilities, the role will provide limited exposure to software development activities and business analysis tasks to build practical, hands-on experience.

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Process Documentation

  • Create, update, and organize technical documentation related to application development, integrations, and system configurations
  • Document business processes and controls to support SOX and internal compliance requirements, including process flows, narratives, and control descriptions
  • Maintain documentation repositories to ensure materials are accurate, current, and easy to navigate
  • Translate technical concepts into clear, structured documentation suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences

Data & Analytics Documentation

  • Document data models, reports, dashboards, KPIs, and data definitions
  • Assist with maintaining data dictionaries and analytics-related reference materials
  • Support documentation of data sources, transformations, and reporting logic

Development & Business Analysis Exposure

  • Assist developers with minor development-related tasks such as documenting code logic, configurations, or testing outcomes
  • Support business analysts with light requirements gathering, process mapping, and validation activities
  • Participate in meetings and workshops to understand application functionality and business workflows

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with cross-functional IT and business stakeholders to validate documentation accuracy
  • Identify opportunities to improve documentation standards, templates, and best practices
  • Follow established documentation, security, and compliance standards

Qualifications

Required

  • Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a program in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Technology, Data Analytics, or a related field
  • Strong written communication skills with attention to detail and organization
  • Ability to understand and document technical and business concepts clearly
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and collaboration platforms

Preferred

  • Exposure to software development concepts, databases, or analytics tools
  • Familiarity with business process documentation, flowcharts, or diagramming tools
  • Interest in enterprise systems, compliance (SOX), and data-driven decision-making
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team
