Position Overview
About the Role
Reporting to the Director, Legislative Services, the Council Liaison/Support Officer acts as a single point of contact for Council on departmental information requests and provides senior level administrative support and research services to Councillors as required. This position requires significant understanding of municipal functions and departmental interconnectivity in addition to solid administrative and research abilities.
The successful applicant will have:
- Considerable knowledge of local government and stakeholder relationships including relationships with residents, other levels of government and the private sector.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to balance multiple priorities in a complex, fast paced environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion while maintaining a professional demeanor at all times.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated communication and listening skills with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders/personalities.
- Excellent computer skills, with thorough knowledge of MS Office, Adobe Pro, common search engines and social media platforms.
- Ability to understand operational role/function of various divisions/departments within the municipality.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (oral/written) and presentation skills.
- Ability to supervise administrative staff, coordinate work assignments and check work as necessary.
- Ability to work flexible hours and attend events/meetings outside of regular business hours.
Qualifications
Completion of a Diploma in Public Administration, Business Administration or relevant discipline, plus a minimum of 5 years related senior administrative experience in government or private sector, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid B.C. Driver’s Licence is required.
Details
Salary: The pay range for this exempt position is $45.30 – $52.56 per hour (2024 rates)
Hours of Work: 35-hour work week (Compressed work schedule available)
