Labourer II - Pest Control Operations
About the role
The Pest Management Operations section is hiring Labourer II's to complete tasks in the following areas: Landscape, Biting Fly, Outdoor Rodent and Structural Pest. These positions operate various pieces of equipment involved in pesticide/insecticide application, including backpack sprayers.
What will you do?
- Working alongside a Pest Control Operator for the application of pesticides, monitoring and other control measures for insect pests (mosquitoes, caterpillars, aphids, sawflies, leaf miners, wasps, hornets, bees and ants that have become a nuisance, etc), for small mammal pests (beaver, ground squirrel, gopher, bats, etc) and structural pests (mice, silverfish, birds, cockroaches)
- Pre and post-treatment inspections to determine areas to be treated and effectiveness of the applications
- Perform minor maintenance and calibration on equipment used
- Record daily chemical summaries of materials used, areas treated and pests controlled
- Responsible for checking requests for service and complaints from the public
- Perform related administrative tasks and duties as required, such as completing timesheets, journals, etc.
- Conducting job duties in a safe manner in compliance with City and Provincial Occupational Health and Safety Legislation regulations, codes, policies and competency training
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 10
- Minimum 1 year of labour experience, including experience in pesticide application
Assets:
- Valid Pesticide Applicators license in Biting Fly, Landscape or Core
- Experience with All Terrain Vehicles (ATVs)
Skills required for success:
- Demonstrated customer service skills including the ability to deal with the public
- Basic understanding for the care and operation of truck mounted equipment
- Ability to operate, service and maintain various types of pesticide application equipment
- Ability to operate GPS and other digital devices

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Successful candidates will be fit for a respirator. Compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position
- Physical ability and manual dexterity to perform the assigned tasks and duties of the position, including the ability to lift 55 lbs
Work Environment:
- Sunday - Saturday work schedule with the possibility of shift work
