COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Department of Microbiology & Immunology of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, McGill University, is seeking applications for a Course Lecturer for the Winter 2027 academic year to teach MIMM 214 – Introductory Immunology: Elements of Immunity.

Course overview: MIMM214 is a three-credit course that serves as an introduction to immunology to a broad range of students: from those in a general science program to those going into Microbiology & Immunology as a field of specialization. In this course, students will learn about the cellular and molecular components of the immune system. Students will understand how immune responses are generated, and the role of the immune system in human disease.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include preparing the students to achieve the learning outcomes set in the course, facilitating classroom discussions, assessment and evaluating student performance (2 quizzes, 1 midterm, 10 formative assessments, 1 final exam and 1 optional creative assignment), guiding 4 TEAM undergraduate students and 3 Teaching Assistants, preparing and giving engaging lectures as well as inviting some guest lecturers to speak about careers in immunology or their experience living with autoimmune diseases. As the course is quite large, the course coordinator must also ensure rooms are booked for assessments, invigilators are secured and understand their roles and the assessments are properly prepared and assembled.

The coordinator is also responsible for grading the optional creative assignment and assisting the TAs as they grade the formative assessments. The TEAM students might ask the coordinator for assistance when answering discussion board questions. Other responsibilities include holding regular office hours, populating the myCourses (D2L) page and ensuring students receive feedback from assessments in a timely manner.

Educatio****n Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology or equivalent

Experi****ence Has been a Teaching Assistant for more than one class in Immunology and/or has immunology teaching experience in either CEGEP or University-level

Other Fluent in English
