Jealous Fruits is the most northerly large-scale cherry producer in North America. We grow premium cherries along the shores of Okanagan Lake in the renowned Okanagan Valley of British Columbia, Canada. Our cherries are all hand packed in our state-of-the-art facility, located right on our farm, and shipped to our customers worldwide.
Job Purpose
We are currently looking for a Horticultural Assistant to join our team for the 2026 season. Under the direction of the Horticulture Manager and the Quality Assurance Field Technician, the Horticultural Assistant will monitor cherry orchards for pests, disease, tree health, and crop development. Our ideal candidate is self-motivated, independent, detail-oriented, and flexible, with strong communication skills and a team mentality.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct Integrated Pest Management (IPM) activities in orchards, focusing primarily on scouting and trapping for common pests
- Ensure pest monitoring records are maintained and updated in compliance with regulatory requirements
- Sample fruit for maturity and quality, to aid in management decisions
- Collect leaf tissue and soil samples for nutrient analysis
- Prepare field reports detailing monitoring results, crop development, and interesting findings
- Assist with delivery of products between farms - a vehicle will be provided
- Work independently in the field, keeping frequent communication with the Horticulture Manager, Quality Assurance Field Technician, and Orchard Managers
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently while maintaining a strong attention to detail
- Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Commitment to maintaining health and safety standards
- Ability to work extended hours, particularly during the harvest months of July and August
- Strong English language skills, both verbal and written
- Valid unrestricted Class 5 driver’s license
Working Conditions
Our working environment can be challenging, with strict deadlines. Applicants should be aware that this is a farming environment and days off may be limited during our growing and packing season. Overtime provisions do not apply for Agricultural work.
- Due to reporting requirements, the work week will be Sunday-Thursday
- Our peak harvest seasons are in the months of July and August – extra time off during this period will be granted with special permission only
- Candidates will mainly work outdoors and must be willing to work in all weather conditions. The role can be physically demanding, requiring stamina for manual labor.

Job Type: Full-time Seasonal
Contract Length: TBD – expected late April to late August. Earlier start may be available if desired by applicant.
Start Date: TBD – expected 24 April 2026.
Hourly Wage: $20-$22 per hour
Bursary: Full-time students will be eligible for a bursary of up to $3,000
