Job Description Summary Reporting directly to the Distribution and Industrial (D&I) CoE Leader, the Advanced Automation Application(AAA) Engineer is a key member of the D&I CoE team.
AAA solutions include electrical monitoring and control systems and power management systems for industrial and utility applications, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) integration solutions, Microgrids control and monitoring solutions, Wide Area Monitoring, Protection and Control solutions (WAMPAC), Remedial Action Schemes (RAS) applicable to islanded or non-islanded installations.
The AAA Engineer shall have technical expertise in designing and implementing power management systems, power plant control for both conventional and Renewable sources and expertise in IEC61131 PLC programming.
The AAA Engineer shall be able to assist customers with their advanced automation applications, propose different solutions and help customers make decisions. AAA Engineer will engage with customers in co-creation dialogue, promote our AAA offerings, and act as the technical liaison between the customer and Grid Automation (GA) region teams for AAA applications.
Job Description Roles and Responsibilities
- Execute first-of-a-kind projects using GA advanced automation products and by coordinating with the R&D teams
- Define AAA solutions and technical architectures.
- Design and develop standardized solution for key segments/customers
- RTDS/ OPAL-RT testing of new AAA solutions.
- Promote AAA offering. Owning plans and actions with the goal of expanding our activities with selected segments and accounts.
- Participate in service activities when needed: Factory and Site Acceptance Testing, Technical Consulting, Training, On-site Support and Commissioning, etc.
- Support Sales & Tendering teams in presales activities and on service offer preparation.
- EHS Leadership, conduct work in compliance with applicable regulations and encourage accurate employee safety practices.
- Occasionally provide installation, testing, commissioning and service direction on-site and remotely.
- Provide both external and internal timely, accurate, professional reports.
- Provide advance technical support and be a trusted advisor to customers.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university or college and /or equivalent experience.
- Strong experience in Design and Engineering with good technical acumen in the domain of Grid Automation and IEC61131 PLC programming skills
- Entrepreneurial and team player.
- Demonstrated experience in autonomous problem-solving with proposal of adapted solutions.
- Demonstrated capability to communicate clearly at technical level either orally or in writing including effective presentation skills.
Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Generation Control and/or Power Management systems, Distributed Renewable Resources (DER) integration to Grid, Microgrid Control Systems
- Expertise in IEC61131 PLC Programming
- Expertise in SCADA systems and communication protocols like IEC61850, Modbus, DNP3, IEC104 and good understanding of networking basics
- Experience in validating solutions using Simulators like RTDS and / or OPAL -RT
- PDC/PMU/Synchrophasor knowledge is desired
- Programming skills in Python, VBA are desired
- MQTT knowledge is desired
- Experience in PSCAD is desired
- Knowledge of the standards relevant to DER integration with Grid like IEEE 1547 and IEEE 2030 is desired
- GPG platform knowledge is desired.
- Proficiency level in English. Other languages valued (Spanish, French, Arabic, German, Italian and/or Russian).
- Willingness and ability to travel globally upto 50% of the time
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a strong customer focus and ability to cooperate with the different departments.
- A rigorous team working approach, good communication and interpersonal skills with a high level of self-motivation, flexibility and self-learning aptitude.
- Must be a motivator, self-starter and dedicated team player with a sense of urgency and an ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
