JOB SUMMARY:

Amico is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Health & Safety Co-op Student to join our project delivery team in Toronto. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our Occupational Health & Safety Management System (ISO 45001:2018). The successful candidate will support HSE team members in monitoring subcontractor compliance, data analysis, and document control while gaining valuable experience in a dynamic infrastructure environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the Health & Safety ISO 45001 Lead in the maintenance and improvement of the ISO 45001-certified management system.

• Assist in collecting, reviewing, and organizing health and safety data submitted by subcontractors (e.g., training records, hazard assessments, inspection reports).

• Contribute to the preparation and follow-up of internal audits, inspections, and corrective action tracking.

• Help prepare safety communications (e.g., toolbox talks, bulletins, audit summaries).

• Collaborate with the Safety Coordinator in maintaining dashboards and KPI trackers (e.g., incident rates, inspection results, training completion).

• Maintain digital and hard-copy documentation to ensure version control and compliance with system procedures.

• Assist with onboarding documentation for subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project HSE requirements.

• Participate in site visits or walkthroughs with the safety team when appropriate, supporting real-time observations and reporting.

• Contribute to the documentation of procedures, reports, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement.

• Perform other administrative or technical tasks as required by the HSE team or project leadership.

DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.

• Interest in pursuing a career in occupational health & safety and management systems.

• Familiarity with ISO standards, OH&S regulations, or construction safety practices is an asset.

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to organize and analyze data effectively.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); knowledge of Power BI is a plus.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingualism (English/French or Spanish) is an asset.

• Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced project environment.

• Previous co-op or volunteer experience in construction or HSE-related roles is an asset but not required.
