JOB SUMMARY:
Amico is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Health & Safety Co-op Student to join our project delivery team in Toronto. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of our Occupational Health & Safety Management System (ISO 45001:2018). The successful candidate will support HSE team members in monitoring subcontractor compliance, data analysis, and document control while gaining valuable experience in a dynamic infrastructure environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the Health & Safety ISO 45001 Lead in the maintenance and improvement of the ISO 45001-certified management system.

Assist in collecting, reviewing, and organizing health and safety data submitted by subcontractors (e.g., training records, hazard assessments, inspection reports).

Contribute to the preparation and follow-up of internal audits, inspections, and corrective action tracking.

Help prepare safety communications (e.g., toolbox talks, bulletins, audit summaries).
-
Collaborate with the Safety Coordinator in maintaining dashboards and KPI trackers (e.g., incident rates, inspection results, training completion).
-
Maintain digital and hard-copy documentation to ensure version control and compliance with system procedures.

Assist with onboarding documentation for subcontractors, ensuring compliance with project HSE requirements.

Participate in site visits or walkthroughs with the safety team when appropriate, supporting real-time observations and reporting.

Contribute to the documentation of procedures, reports, and lessons learned to support continuous improvement.

Perform other administrative or technical tasks as required by the HSE team or project leadership.
DESIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, COMPETENCIES

Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related discipline.

Interest in pursuing a career in occupational health & safety and management systems.

Familiarity with ISO standards, OH&S regulations, or construction safety practices is an asset.

Strong attention to detail and the ability to organize and analyze data effectively.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); knowledge of Power BI is a plus.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; bilingualism (English/French or Spanish) is an asset.

Able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced project environment.

Previous co-op or volunteer experience in construction or HSE-related roles is an asset but not required.
