Your Role
As an Ice Operator (Entry Level), you’ll be the unsung hero of the rink—keeping things running smoother than a freshly resurfaced sheet of ice. You’ll be responsible for making sure the ice is always in tip-top shape and that everyone has a chill time—literally.
Your Responsibilities
- You will operate equipment including, but not limited to, Zambonis, ice edger’s, floor scrubbers, and other equipment where qualified.
- You will ensure the Ice Facilities are maintained in accordance with the RRC policies and procedures.
- You will comply with department procedures at all times and ensure building standards and efficiencies are maintained.
- Create positive experiences for user groups including preparing the ice surface for rentals in a timely fashion, ensuring dressing rooms are assigned accordingly, answering inquiries about the facility, and handling complaints.
- You are able to navigate the maintenance planning computer program and perform preventative maintenance work pertaining to building and equipment maintenance in all RRC Facilities.
- You participate in and assist with facility-related projects.
- You will provide support functions with other Facilities Management operations and maintenance as required.
- You assist in all aspects of the preparation and execution of events, programs, and projects at the RRC.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED Equivalency.
- Building Maintenance Level 1 & 2 Certification is an asset.
- Current Intermediate First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or equivalent (including CPR C) is an asset.
- Previous arena and custodial experience is an asset.
- Arial lift, fall protection, forklift, skid steer certifications is an asset.
Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrate ability to operate related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labor.
- Thrive in a team environment, enjoy working as a team member as well as independently.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Working Conditions
- This position includes heavy lifting of supplies and equipment up to 50 lbs.
- This position requires work at varied heights from ladders, scaffolding, and elevated work platforms.
- Good physical condition and able to perform heavy manual labor.
- This position requires a flexible schedule including statutory holidays, early morning, late night, and weekend work and may require a rotating shift.
- This position involves working under variable temperature conditions, in indoor and outdoor settings.
- This position may be exposed to loud noises and will require an individual to be able to concentrate in a busy environment.

About Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo
The Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo (RRC) was created by the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) Council in October, 2012 to design, build, steward and operate several state-of-the-art community recreation, sport and event facilities and venues. The RRC was officially incorporated under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act on June 10, 2013.
Working in collaboration with the RMWB and with the communities it serves, the RRC builds upon the success of MacDonald Island Park, Canada's largest community recreation and events experience, in order to lead and foster an approach of excellence in service delivery and facilities throughout the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, as well as supporting and enhancing initiatives already in place.
Aligned with the RMWB Municipal Development Plan, new initiatives are being developed utilizing the expertise of the entire region. As a result, the RRC will expand and develop services offered in cooperation with various sport, recreation and community associations to similar quality standards while adapting to suit the needs of each community. The facilities, designed to meet the needs of a growing population, encompass both those within the urban area of Fort McMurray as well as facilities in Anzac, Conklin, and Fort Chipewyan.
Alongside MacDonald Island, which includes the Suncor Community Leisure Centre, Miskanaw Golf Club, and Shell Place (currently under construction at MacDonald Island) and the new Anzac Recreation Centre presented by Nexen Energy, a CNOOC Limited company, these present and future facilities will form the foundation for a new era in community recreation, sport and events in the Wood Buffalo region.
