Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Extruder Operator to operate and maintain extrusion equipment used in the plastic recycling process. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Extrusion Line Setup:
    Prepare extrusion machines for operation by installing dies, screens, and setting controls according to production specifications.
  • Machine Operation:
    Operate single- or twin-screw extruders to process recycled plastic materials into pellets or other usable forms. Continuously monitor feed rates, temperatures, pressure, and RPMs to ensure efficient operation.
  • Material Handling:
    Load plastic materials into hoppers using forklifts or manual methods. Blend materials if required by the batch recipe. Ensure proper labeling and documentation of materials.
  • Quality Control:
    Inspect extruded products regularly for quality, checking size, color, texture, and consistency. Use measurement tools (e.g., calipers, gauges) and record results. Adjust machine settings to maintain quality standards.
  • Troubleshooting:
    Quickly identify and resolve operational issues such as blockages, equipment malfunctions, or material inconsistencies to minimize downtime.
  • Maintenance and Cleaning:
    Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of extruders, filters, dies, and conveyors. Report major mechanical issues to maintenance personnel. Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Production Documentation:
    Accurately record production data, including batch numbers, material types, weights, machine settings, and quality check results.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    Adhere to all company safety guidelines and wear required PPE (personal protective equipment). Handle plastic materials in accordance with environmental regulations and recycling standards.
  • Team Collaboration:
    Communicate effectively with supervisors, quality control staff, and fellow operators to meet production goals and resolve any process concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience operating extrusion machinery (preferably in plastics or recycling)
  • Strong mechanical skills and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Forklift certification is an asset
