We are currently recruiting for the following role in our Toronto office:

Analyst, Client & Business Intelligence

The Role

The Analyst, Client & Business Intelligence, is a member of the firm’s Client & Business Development (CBD) Department. Primary responsibilities will include the gathering of company, market and competitive intelligence, advising firm lawyers and management related to firm strategy, industry trends, data analysis and management.

Essential Functions

Competitive Intelligence

Provide reports for client development pursuits, including sourcing of research materials, coordinating relationship intelligence (CRM & billing), summarizing findings and presenting materials to stakeholders, including lawyers and colleagues Assist the CBD team with target/prospect identification based on specific criteria including, but not limited to: public filings, geographic and industry segmentation, industry and market trends/activity, previous and current counsel (inside/out), and Bennett Jones’ connections Support of national CBD initiatives, including research/analysis in support of Industry Group business plans, Bennett Jones’ Key Client Program (KCP), individual lawyer’s business plans, as well as pursuits (Win Strategies) and responses to RFPs and other projects Provide proactive insights and circulations of developments in the various industry sectors Maintain a high level of curiosity and knowledge expansion by combing newsfeeds, participating in industry and client-related meetings, and connecting with colleagues Assist the CBD team with competitive market scans, which entails looking at competitor practice areas and/or competitors’ composition, marketing and activity within a specific practice area or jurisdiction. You will look at: Key industry markets - verticals and geographically; Market-sizing; Practice names & descriptions;

of lawyers per practice and leverage for competitor firms;

Recent deals/clients/cases; Resources available to clients (update, issue specific brochures, etc.); Law firm rankings; and Associations and rankings Highlight any trends or potential conflicts in conjunction with your research Assist with data analysis relating to our social media publications Assist with ad hoc reports (for example reports by Industry, region or office location) Experience And Client Data Management

Advising the wider CBD team on publicly available deals linked to those in our mandate database so all information is captured accurately Assist with maintaining knowledge management resources Help support client data quality by working with the CRM team to update existing contacts Reviewing and updating new contacts: ensuring companies and individuals are properly identified into various segments (c-suite, corporate counsel, etc.) and research additional information such as industry codes and LinkedIn profiles

Continuous Improvement Implementation

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and develop plans for implementation, monitoring and tracking of new processes to ensure success, including recommending and leveraging firm-approved technologies and platforms Creative outlook that actively seeks to expand access to the department's resources and intelligence

Qualifications

3+ years experience in a research environment. Post-secondary degree in a relevant field of study Familiarity with common business and corporate transactional research tools is an asset, including products like Bloomberg, CapitalIQ, Mergermarket, Pitchbook and others Intermediate or advanced skill using AI tools for research and summary development, including ChatGPT, Tableau and Co-Pilot, and technical aptitude to learn and utilize other relevant tools Intermediate or advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and experience with visualization tools like PowerBI an asset Curiosity with a persistent drive to expand knowledge and to provide clear insights An ability and willingness to work with stakeholders to scope and refine desired outcomes and outputs, to shape and make efficient research processes and outputs Able to prioritize work - involving connecting with various participants, managing conflicting priorities, and establishing feasible timelines for projects Analytical, creative and critical thinking - connect dots between projects and themes, identify opportunities for involvement of additional stakeholders A strong team player; demonstrates a positive work ethic. Strong interpersonal skills to develop cross-functional relationships within the department and throughout the firm Highly organized with excellent attention to detail Self-motivated and manages everyday tasks with little supervision Maintains professionalism, confidentiality and discretion Excellent verbal and written communication skills
