Position Overview: Join Finning as a Disability Management Consultant and be part of a professional team dedicated to supporting employees through health-related events. You’ll work closely with employees, leaders, union representatives, HR Business Partners, medical providers, and external service partners (e.g., WCB, SunLife) to develop and implement effective disability management plans. Your role ensures compliance with legislation while fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace.

Job Description:

  • Manage complex disability cases (occupational and non-occupational) including short- and long-term disability, workplace injuries, substance-related files, accommodation requests, and other medical leaves from initiation to resolution.
  • Consult and educate stakeholders on processes and legislation (privacy, Human Rights, Duty to Accommodate, workers’ compensation).
  • Develop, improve and follow relevant policies and best practices to enhance disability management programs.
  • Provide expert consultation on Duty to Accommodate, Human Rights, privacy legislation, disability best practices, workers’ compensation processes, and internal policies.
  • Lead the coordination and communication between internal stakeholders and external providers to ensure aligned expectations, timely updates, and effective case progression.
  • Identify process gaps and contribute to ongoing improvement by refining procedures, policies, tools, and best practices used within the disability management program.
  • Collaborate on and contribute to strategic initiatives and project work related to disability management, employee well‑being, and organizational practices.
  • Prepare written submissions for WCB appeals, cost relief requests, legal inquiries, and other external information requests ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential case files and documentation to ensure compliance with legislation, insurer requirements, and internal standards.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field.
  • Minimum 7 years of broad disability management experience.
  • Professional designation and/or industry-specific training.
  • Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) or Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) or related professional designation is an asset.
  • Experience in a unionized environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Expertise in interpreting medical reports and creating return-to-work plans.
  • Conflict resolution and negotiation abilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of disability management principles, WCB legislation, STD/LTD administration, and accommodation processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and internal systems.

Important:

  • This position is based out of our Edmonton or Calgary office location.
  • Permanent, full-time role.
  • Monday – Friday, 5x2 schedule.
