Our office in Niagara Falls, ON, is looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Advisor/WSIB Claims Administrator to join our team.
Summary of the Role
Reporting to the Corporate Environmental Health and Safety Manager, the Environmental Health and Safety Advisor/WSIB Claims Administrator is responsible for implementing, monitoring and enforcing the Company Health & Safety policies and programs, ensuring safe working procedures on company work sites and facilities.
Oversee and maintain WSIB data relating to the tracking and reporting of required Corporate Health & Safety (H&S) information across the company including the provision of various reports and statistics to be used in the Company pre-qualification and estimating processes. Additionally, this position will aid in overall Company Health & Safety (H&S) maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and maintain H&S data in respect of the Company’s WSIB claims management process.
- Responsible for assisting the Corporate Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Manager in initiating and coordinating WSIB claims and the E.S. Fox Limited Return to Work (RTW) program.
- Liaise with and provide guidance to Supervisors and Managers regarding WSIB claims management.
- Work collaboratively with employees and site EH&S personnel in the collection of all data relating to H&S reporting requirements.
- Track decisions and action plans determined for claims.
- Collect information required to complete WSIB forms for medical aid and lost time injuries under the direction of the Corporate EH&S Manager for data and reporting integrity, accuracy and compliance.
- Liaise with WSIB representatives, as needed, both verbally and through written communication in claim files.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual statistical reports in a prescribed format for the Corporate EH&S Manager including special reports required by customers, vendors and suppliers, for review by senior management;
- Review and upload all new documentation into WSIB data system.
- Enter and update current and historical information, including modified duty information in WSIB data system.
- Implement and oversee safety program through on-site monitoring during field visits.
- Maintain and oversee the EH&S safety program.
- Assist/Manage the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Audit program, including field visits, as required.
- Liaise with management and labour to ensure that the highest level of due diligence is maintained.
- Provide counsel and advice to Company management on all health and safety related matters.
- Provide H&S training, indoctrination, orientation to employees.
- May chair or co-chair H&S Committee.
Key Requirements, Experience and Skills
- Strong research, analysis and evaluation techniques.
- Experience in WSIB claims coordination and administration.
- Community College diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Technology, or the equivalent, combined with several years of directly related experience.
- NCSO, CRSP or CHSC certifications is an asset.
- Knowledge with Certificate of Recognition (COR) Audit requirements is an asset.
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation (OH&S Act, Regulations for Construction Projects).
- Sound knowledge and experience in claims management for the WSIB programs and services, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act (WSIA) is essential.
- Knowledge of common construction practices, techniques and equipment related to large construction projects.
- Knowledge and experience with filing WSIB reporting forms.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills including the ability to recognize trends and patterns in reports generated.
- Strong information gathering skills.
- Excellent analytical problem solving skills including the ability to evaluate case information and provide recommendations to employers/employees on sensitive/confidential issues and to counsel where required.
- Demonstrated report-writing skills along with well-developed investigative, analytical and problem solving skills.
- 2+ years of experience in OH&S in an industrial/construction establishment.
- Superior ability to communicate professionally and effectively with internal and external clients, at various levels, in both group and one-on-one settings, both verbally and in writing.
- Working Ability in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.
